Mouz outlast G2 to reach the IEM Chengdu finals

Mouz has outlasted G2 in a best-of-3 semi-final to book a spot in the Grand Finals of IEM Chengdu. Mouz came into the game having never made it past the play-off stage into the finals after the recent roster overhaul, having brushed off G2, Mouz will face the winner of Astralis vs FaZe in the Grand Finals for the trophy.

Once on the offense, G2 sailed past Mouz giving their defense no shot as we moved onto the next map. With 22 kills and a rating of 1.71 rating, mONESY stood out as the best player for G2.

Mouz starting on the CT side had a similar to that of Anubis. Overpass being a CT-sided map, had G2 push Mouz to the limit to end the half with 6 rounds each. While the first half of the map would have G2 coming out as the better side, the second half had them flipped on their heads. G2 pulled in a two-round lead but Mouz managed to run through with half despite G2 pulling a few rounds and cutting it close on more occasions than one. Mouz managed to break G2’s economy in the final two rounds and quickly ended the series 2-1 booking a spot in the finals. Brollan without being the flashiest player consistently delivered for Mouz posting 17 kills and a 1.43 rating.

Ubisoft’s Removal of “The Crew” From Owners’ Libraries Faces Severe Backlash

Numerous gamers around the world love racing games and apart from Forza and NFS, there is another popular name in this genre “The Crew”. Previously, Ubisoft (developers of The Crew) shut down the servers of the game last month which upset a lot of fans.

However, even after the server shutdown, The Crew could be still playable offline. Only the online mode was affected by it. The situation worsened when Ubisoft started revoking players’ licenses after which the game was removed from players’ libraries. After that, it became impossible to download the game from the game library.

According to PC Gamer, Ubisoft moved the game to the “inactive games” section where it mentions: “You no longer have access to this game”. The sudden removal of a purchased game from your library without consent and refund has made the fans angry. Several players have also questioned the legality of this horrendous move by Ubisoft.

The issue here isn’t about money, though. It’s that they’re basically making it impossible to (legally) play the game again. It’s a symptom of the always-online server based game design that companies have been doing for what feels like forever. If a company wants to do this, they should be prepared to operate or pay for the servers in perpetuity. Barring that, they should plan to accommodate for the games true end-of-life such that people can still play the game if they decide to terminate said servers so that people can still legally play the game they paid for.

Ensuring that licenses shouldn’t be revoked like this can’t be particularly difficult? It sounds more like a legal thing than a technical one. Ensuring that online games will always be playable would be more difficult. But taking down the servers is pretty different from revoking the license to play the game at all.

Undoubtedly, it is unfair to suddenly remove a game’s license that you own and have paid for without your consent. While the industry is moving in a direction where more people prefer to own content digitally, you should think about the dark side before making any purchase decision.

Unfortunately, the team put forth a mediocre performance and could not perform as expected. Following the matches, TeamXSpark’s owner, Tanmay “ScoutOP” Singh, discussed the team’s performance and expressed hope in the team.

ScoutOP Expresses Faith in TeamXSpark

In a recent livestream, ScoutOP spoke about TeamXSpark’s performance in its three matches of BGIS 2024: The Grind Week 1. Acknowledging the team’s stumble, he stated, “We messed up a little in BGIS today. But no worries, we’ll keep working hard.” Reflecting on the missed opportunities, ScoutOP stated, “We missed two easy Chicken Dinners.”

As the curtain falls on this chapter of their journey, ScoutOP is positive that the team will make a comeback in the remaining journey. With three more matches set to be played in the next round of the tournament, TeamXSpark has set their sights on a lofty target. “We have three more matches to play. We have set a target of 50 points in those matches,” ScoutOP added. “If we’re able to get 80 points, then we will surely get an invite for the main round.”

With three more matches left for TeamXSpark in The Grind stage of BGIS 2024, the team will aim and hope to qualify for the Main Stage of the tournament directly. If it fails to qualify through The Grind, it will have to qualify through open Online Qualifiers, which will be a tough task. Although TeamXSpark has the potential to qualify for the event, the competition in BGMI is skyrocketing. It will be interesting to see if the team secures a spot in the Main Stage.

Match-fixing is not a new thing in the world of esports. Recently, we’ve seen allegations surface against the professional Dota 2 player Tommy “Taiga” Le for being involved in a Russian match-fixing scandal. 

Counter-Strike 2 is no stranger to match-fixing scandals either. According to reports from various sources, CS2 pro Erkhan “⁠gokushima⁠” Bagynanov has been handed a two-year suspension by the ESIC (Esports Integrity Commission) for being involved in match-fixing. The ban prevents the 23-year-old from participating in any ESIC-sanctioned event.

The ban came into effect just days before FORZE announced benching its entire roster on April 2, 2024. Gokushima played his final match with FORZE on the very day he was banned.

Despite the setback, the team has persevered, competing in both the Skyesports Masters and ESL Challenger League, with a substitute stepping in for gokushima, alongside the other benched teammates.
