FaZe ships mousesports home

1

FaZe has managed to defeat mousesports in the first game of the quarter finals of ELEAGUE Boston Major 2018. The journey of mousesports, with this defeat, comes to an end. FaZe beat mousesports 19-16 in Nuke and a convincing 16-9 in Cache.

The fate of the game could’ve been different, should mousesports have taken the 29th round serious enough. A chain of unwanted mistakes by the dominant side, led the scoreboard towards their own fatality. So much so, that they are now no longer a part of the playoffs.

The game on Nuke, which was mousesports pick, started off FaZe trailing marginally behind their opponents. Despite their tough start, FaZe steered their way to a scoreline of 13-15 in the second half of the game. Couple of mistakes by Mousesports led FaZe to 14-15, where Niko presented his contention to win the game. The courageous attempt to clutch a 1v2 got success and FaZe leveled the score at the end of regular thirty rounds.

Although mousesports were able to get the first round in overtime, it wasn’t enough. Olofmeister and NiKo led FaZe, won four consecutive rounds to secure a victory in the first map.

In the second map Cache, chosen by FaZe, mousesports had a rough start. Even though, they were able to get five rounds on the board in the first half, the game was still in total control of FaZe Clan and ended 16-9.

The best of three quarter finals ended in favor of FaZe 2-0 and they now are the first semi-finalist of Boston Major 2018.

Virtus.pro could release TaZ & Neo

3

The Polish Counter Strike Team Virtus.Pro could replace one of their legendary players Wiktor “TaZ” Wojitas  from their active lineup after a crushing 0-3 elimination at Eleague Major 2018. A lineup change for the long lasting CS:GO roster could finally happen.

According to a report by esports journalist Jarek “DeKay” Lewis, Virtus.pro has informed Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas that he will be replaced with Team Kinguin’s Michal “MICHU” Müller.  The only problem could be the transfer fee which reportedly is around $310,000.

Furthermore, Virtus.Pro warned Filip “NEO” Kubski of their underperformance. The management urged that Neo will have to follow his way out of the team along with TaZ if the performance doesn’t improve. This means that, the trio of Jaroslaw “pashaBiceps” Jarzabkowski, Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski, and Pawel “byali” Bielinski will remain as the longest-standing lineup in CS:GO history.

However, in an interview with HLTV, Kinguin’s Giovanni Varriale stressed that the organisation is not looking to sell MICHU at this time.

It is hard to comment on something we know from ‘internet rumours,” the Kinguin chief told HLTV.org.

“All we can say right now is that we are happy with the current team setup and we have no intention to sell any of our players.”

This could mean that Virtus.pro will have to meet the player’s valuation, reported to be in the region of $300,000, for a deal to come through.

ESL partners with McDonald’s in Germany for Meisterschaft 2018

1

Germany’s biggest championship Meisterschaft by ESL will have a F&B partner, McDonald’s, the company announced a couple of hours ago. The food chain giant officially announced the plan of their sponsorship of 2018 in relation with ESL in Germany.

The McDonald’s logo will feature in all ESL Meisterschaft tournaments this year and the company promises special activations in Gamescom Cologne, such as competitions for fans to win “Gold Cards” for free meals at the fast-food chain’s restaurants.

“More and more non-endemic brands are increasingly discovering the potential of esports and we are proud to have such an excellent partner as McDonald’s Germany. It’s the perfect partner to further establish esports in Germany and foster the community’s growth around ESL Meisterschaft and beyond,” said Bernhard Mogk, ESL’s global sales and business development SVP.

The deal will supposedly include McDonald’s deliveries to visitors of ESL Meisterschaft events in Germany, and at “other major events” in the area likes Gamescom in Cologne.

Philipp Wachholz, Director of Corporate Affairs, McDonald’s Germany, commented on the news. The translated quote is as follows:

“This offers us completely new opportunities to get in touch with a relevant target group and we are looking forward to working together and to taking the next steps with a professional partner like the ESL, which is a meaningful and, above all, contemporary addition to our traditional sports commitment so far.”

ESL Meisterschaft worked with multiple non-endemic partners over the last years. Its main sponsor since 2016 is home loan bank Wüstenrot, Pringles also features in the portfolio, while paysafecard was just announced as ESL’s global partner, including the German national championships. Meet The Legends of ELEAGUE Boston Major 2018

The major is just a few days away and we’re in the process of introducing our readers with a recap. What unfolded in the Major this year was similar to the upsets we witnessed during Krakow Major. The Legends of ELEAGUE is somewhat diluted. Adjacent to that, even this time, we only see two teams retaining their Legend status for the playoffs.

The most disappointing and heartbreaking result of this year’s Major was the exclusion of Virtus.pro from Major status, for the first time ever in the last eight prequels.

Derived from PGL Krakow 2017 Major, the legends entering into Boston Major 2018 were:

  • Gambit
  • Fnatic – retaining Legends
  • Immortals
  • Virtus.pro
  • SK Gaming – retaining Legends
  • BiG
  • North
  • Astralis

The legends in the previous year also somewhat seemed like a result of multiple upsets during the group stages. In this season, however, the outcome of this Major has been unknowingly startling.

Only Fnatic & SK are among the teams who were able to prove their Legend status for this year’s Major. Which also marks the halt of Virtus.Pro’s Legend-ary run for all these years. New Legends comprised of the retaining one’s at Boston Major 2018 will start their playoff battle from tomorrow.

The Legends of ELEAGUE

We take you through the journey of Legends (until the next major) on their way to the playoffs of this season.

FaZe Clan

A journey from ELEAGUE Main Qualifiers to earning the Legend status, FaZe have proved their worth to the masses. They beat Natus Vincere in the Main Qualifier 16-4 before entering into the group stages. Led by rain, karrigan & Olofmeister, FaZe had the desired start to the Major. Olofmeister played against his ex-organization all charged up in the second game where they beat Fnatic by a convincing scoreline of 16-8 in Cache. While the rest of his team had a K/D Ratio of 1.30, Olofmeister led Faze with his 25-17 confident numbers.

The second game versus Vega Squadron was even more favorable for the FaZe side. A 12-3 first half and a consecutive quad round in the second half progressed FaZe as 16-3 in the game and 2-0 in the series.

Third time facing the giant SK with world champions FalleN, fer and coldzera, FaZe did not seem to hesitate. After a tough fight in the first half, GuardiaN led the team to victory as they closed the second half with a strong possession of the game and a scoreline of 2-11. The game ended 16-12 in favor of FaZe. They remain undisputed 3-0 in this year’s Major yet.

Mousesports

After winning two consecutive games from ELEAGUE Main Qualifiers against AVANGAR & Natus Vincere, mousesports qualified the ELEAGUE Major 2018. Their first game win against Astralis was also a moral victory for the side since the score hovered at 16-2.

Their group stage 1-0 game versus SK Gaming was rather a tough battle. The Brazilian powerhouse did all they could and clinched the victory in their favor with a scoreline of 16-12. The team was ported to the 1-1 league. The next game versus QBF was a devastating experience. They could not win three rounds to secure a victory, instead, Quantum Bellator Fire was allowed to come back into the game from a score line of 2-13.

The game extraordinarily ended at 16-14 in the favor of QBF, making it one of the most amazing comebacks ever in this year’s major.

Their elimination game versus Space Soldiers was dicey at first, but the guys at mousesports were able to take control of the game and closed the scoreboard, still at 16-13, hence, advancing to the playoffs.

Natus Vincere

The Legends of ELEAGUE

Luck is the word for the Ukrainian conglomerate. Not to emphasizing on comparatively soft opponents they were matched against, they beat fnatic 16-7 on Inferno which is considered to be an even map for both the sides.

Natus Vincere beat BIG 16-1, Liquid 16-9 and was beaten by Gambit 5-16 before they defeated Fnatic and made their way to the playoffs.

Quantum Bellator Fire

Rags to riches, QBF’s incredible feat of Legend entitlement is what people need to follow. QBF had to prove their stature from Main Qualifiers to the Group Stages before they were sent to playoffs.

  • 8-16 vs Natus Vincere
  • 16-13 vs Flash
  • 6-16 vs FaZe
  • 16-12 vs EnVyUs
  • 16-6 vs AVANGAR
  • 16-3 vs Virtus.Pro
  • 19-16 vs Gambit
  • 4-16 vs G2
  • 16-14 vs mousesports

By far, this is the only team which has played nine games this year to get into the Legend status. They even pulled off a major upset versus mousesports on train, where they came back all the way from 2-13 to 16-14.

G2 Esports

3-0 feat into the Major, G2 Esports is among the undisputed teams, taking a spot into the playoffs at the Major. In the group stages, post the main qualifiers, G2 were matched against Cloud9, Liquid, & QBF. Thrice, they stumped their opponents with a convincing 16-8, 16-8 and 16-4 respectively.

It will be fun to watch the two deadly Frenchmen KennyS and shox playing on the same side of the fence during the playoffs.

Cloud9

North American pride Cloud9 is among the eight Legends this year. Their first game loss versus Space Soldiers was the only defeat the team has seen at this year’s Major.

They faced Virtus.pro, Astralis & Vega Squadron and defeated them strongly with 16-7, 16-6 and 16-4 scores on the board. They will fly the American flag highrise at the ELEAGUE Boston Major 2018.

SK Gaming

The Legends of ELEAGUE

The reason this team is at 3-1 section is only that of their rivals FaZe, who beat them 16-12. Other than that game, SK has been dominating the group stages against all the teams they’ve matched against. Not to overlook the fact that their games were against the not-so-favorite teams, but the playoffs are not too far, where they will be made to play against the legends.

Two times Major champions, one with Luminosity and another with SK, they have one of the most dreadful lineups of all time. Coldzera, considered to be the best player in the world in all-form of weaponry backed by the sharp brainer sniper FalleN and the deadly lurkers Fer and Taco.

fnatic

The Legends of ELEAGUE

After the departure of their heavyweights olofmeister, dennis, fnatic picked up players from Fnatic Academy in Sweden. The team, which now has relatively new players in the form of Lekr0 and Golden had quite a successful run in the Major this year so far. They were beaten by Natus Vincere 7-16 and FaZe 8-16.

Settling down in the 3-2 league, Fnatic has so far defeated Astralis, Virtus.pro, and Gambit. Incidentally, all the three teams they have faced were Legends. So far, Fnatic has proved their legacy to be called as Legends in the majors, we will, however, see what they bring to the playoffs of this Major which begins tomorrow.

Schedule for the playoffs

The $1,000,000 Boston Major 2018 by ELEAGUE enters into playoffs from tomorrow. The Legends of ELEAGUE will battle it out to win the first Major of 2018. The playoffs will feature a best of three.

  • 26th January, 20:30 – FaZe vs mousesports
  • 26th January, 23:00 – Natus Vincere vs QBF
  • 27th January, 01:30 – G2 vs Cloud9
  • 27th January, 20:30 – SK vs Fnatic

The semi-finals of ELEAGUE Major 2018 will be conducted after the quarters’ results are derived on the same day. The second finals, however, will be conducted on the following day.

  • 27th January, 23:00 – ELEAGUE Semifinals #1
  • 28th January 01:30 – ELEAGUE Semifinals #2
  • 29th January 00:30 – ELEAGUE Grand Finals

The tournament favorites are of course SK Gaming for the masses, but there is a lot of potential we saw from the underdogs QBF and the legendary lineup of FaZe. It is only a couple of days away when we will know who takes the trophy and the lion’s share of the prize home.

After exclusive deal with Facebook, ESL loses significant viewership

3

Facebook & ESL, which signed an exclusivity streaming agreement a week ago, has left the fans disappointed. The deal featured ESL One and Pro League events to be streamed not traditionally on Twitch but Facebook.

After the deal went through, ESL One Genting was the first event. The tournament is the first Dota event of 2018 that features all of the top teams in the world and many fans were expected to tune into the event.

However, the first day of the competition and the Facebook live stream seemed to peak around the 7,000 viewers mark, with that number shrinking to around 2,000 for large parts of the broadcast. Unanticipated to the prediction of the management which was at a loss of viewership of 10-15%, the numbers dropped by more than 85% in the first run.

On a lighter note, the Reddit subsection moderators of DotA 2 have already started making fun of the decision. The section which shows ‘online viewers’ was renamed to ‘Facebook viewers.’

Although there are factors reflecting the drop in viewership, it is still considerably low.

  • Group stage matches
  • Different timezone
  • Ongoing ELEAGUE Boston Major

Other than the factors which could have dropped the numbers, the fans also complained about technical issues with the stream and the Facebook platform.

The visual quality of the stream was also not perfect while watching it on the mobile platforms. The only feasible way to watch on iOS devices is via the official Facebook app, which requires a Facebook account. An honest Reddit thread lists the serious problems of the deal.

Nazara acquires majority stake 55% in Nodwin Gaming

1

Nazara Games, which entered into the esports fraternity last year with ₹ 136 crore investment announcement has executed a deal with Nodwin Gaming. The mobile game production giant, which announced their investment plans last year to support their esports endeavors have now gone a step ahead and acquired a majority stake in Nodwin Gaming.

Route Mobile, a similar player in the industry has already ventured into the era and have supported Signify, a DotA 2 squad.

Nodwin, which is responsible for introducing international brands in India such as ESL, ESWC, was formed by an equal share partnership by Gautam Virk and Akshat Rathee & Jetsynthesis Pvt. Ltd., a marketing firm holding multiple digital properties.

EY acted as the exclusive financial advisor to the transaction. Nazara Technologies Ltd., is also preparing for initial public offering in the upcoming quarters as per the sources.

Nazara, with its majority investment in NODWIN, is furthering its commitment of developing the esports ecosystem to enable competitive online & offline gaming, create localized leagues and cups and boost esports as spectator sports in India.

The approach includes localized content creation around global events (ESL One, ESL Pro League, Intel Extreme Masters, The International by Valve, etc) and creating local events by bringing in sponsors. This
will give a massive boost to the creation of world-class esports athletes and players emerging from the Indian ecosystem.

Sandeep Singhal, MD, Westbridge Capital quoted “Nazara and Nodwin coming together is a great
win-win for the shareholders of both the companies. We are delighted at the possibility of this
alliance.”

According to Manish Agarwal, CEO, Nazara Technologies, “Through this acquisition we aim to provide Indian esports enthusiasts a robust player and community orientated esports ecosystem, in which players can thrive, improve their skills and become top competitors at an international level.

According to, NODWIN Gaming, CEO and Managing Director, Akshat Rathee, “esports is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide. This acquisition by Nazara Games adds to the credibility of NODWIN and opens up a wide vista of opportunities for Indian esports players to build careers domestically and Internationally. It strengthens our ability to provide our key stakeholders better experiences and bigger opportunities to engage with our community.”

Rajan Navani, Vice Chairman, and Managing Director, Jetsynthesys Pvt Ltd., added “Having worked closely with Akshat Rathee and Gautam Virk to build Nodwin Gaming to this level, we are pleased and excited about the future opportunity for all of us, that opens up with Nazara’s participation to help establish Nodwin as the clear leader in e-sports over the longer term.”

We regret an earlier story mentioned Signify’s investor as Nazara instead of Route Mobiles. It has now been rectified.
