“PUBG Wala Hai Kya” asks Prime Minister Modi to a worried Mother during Pariksha Pe Charcha 2.0

2

As the craze for PUBG Mobile in India is getting more and more people hooked on to their mobile screens, it seems to have caught the attention of the Prime Minister himself.

It was just a regular session of Pariksha pe Charcha 2.0, where the Prime Minister was addressing several students and parents regarding the way they should approach their studies ahead of the exam season, when a concerned parent of a class IX student raised the issue of her son being distracted by studies and instead spending a lot of time on Online Games, to which she sought a solution from the PM.

The PM light heartedly replied “PUBG wala hai kya?” to which the entire auditorium laughed as the PM put forth his point of keeping things in balance.

“Ye samasya bhi hai, samadhaan bhi hai, hum chahe hamare bachhe technology se door chale jayen, fir toh vo ek prakar se piche jana shuru ho jaenge” (Technology is a solution as well as a problem, we want our children to be away from technology but in a way if we do so, it will be regressive).

Modi continued by stressing that parents should encourage the use of technology, and bring up conversations about it on the breakfast table with their kids, so that they feel like their parents are trying to help them. He warned, though, that technology could often make people narrow-minded in their thoughts.

PUBG in 2018 has caused a huge spike in Online Gaming, and mobile gaming in particular. India has the 3rd most downloads for PUBG Mobile in the world, and the game itself has over 100 million downloads, taking the 2nd spot for the most downloaded game on ios.

Its not that people just play the game, they watch it in huge numbers too. Many YouTube channels like CosmicYT, Kronten Gaming, Dynamo Gaming, Mortal etc have risen out of the blue in 2018 owing to huge views on their live streams. One of them, Dynamo Gaming, gained a staggering 1 million subscribers in just 3 months.

The game has become so popular among Indians that it has found itself among mainstream esports, with prize pools reaching an unprecedented Rs 1 crore, with sponsors like Oppo being roped in. No wonder the Prime Minister has taken cognisance as this game is growing day by day.

Team Secret wins DotA 2 Chongqing Major title

Team Secret got a double dose of revenge on their way to winning the grand final of the $1 million Chongqing Major in China on Sunday. After sweeping Evil Geniuses 2-0 in the lower bracket final, Team Secret moved on to the best-of-five grand final against Virtus.pro.

Virtus.pro already had advanced to the grand final by defeating Team Secret 2-1 in the upper bracket final on Friday and also had beaten them 3-2 in the grand final of the Kuala Lumpur Major in November.

But on Sunday, Team Secret upended their rivals 3-1 to claim the $350,000 top prize and the 4,950 DPC points that go with it.

Team Secret jumped out to the early lead, taking the first game in just 21 minutes. They only intensified the pressure from there, winning the second game in 17 minutes — the fastest of the tournament.

Virtus.pro rallied to win a lengthy third game but couldn’t carry the momentum any further as a focused and patient Team Secret made their move at the 30-minute mark and forced Virtus.pro to give up.

With the victory, Team Secret qualifies for The International 2019. Virtus.pro already had qualified via its win in the Kuala Lumpur Major.

FaZe wins ELEAGUE Invitational with New Roster

1

FaZe Clan secured their first tournament of 2019 after beating Cloud9 2-1 in the ELEAGUE in Atlanta.

The European Organisation, which had just announced a roster change, with the arrival of Dauren “adreN” Kystaubayev, who replaced Finn “Karrigan” Andersen, and the addition of Serbian Coach Janko “YNk” Paunović, faced their first major test on LAN, and redeemed themselves against the same opponent which beat them a year ago in the ELEAGUE Major held in Boston.

Cloud9, who have themselves been riddled with roster changes following the departure of Stewie2K and Tarik, blew apart FaZe on Mirage by a scoreline of 16-3, with a near flawless 14-1 CT half, and looked set to take the match easily against a toothless FaZe.

Inferno, however, was a completely different ball game with the European powerhouse taking an 11-4 lead, marked by an insane 1-3 by Havard “rain” Nygaard with just a P250 being invested by the entire team. In the 2nd half, Cloud9 rallied to win 7 of the first 8 rounds to keep the scoreline modest at 12-11, but FaZe eventually got their groove and closed out the game 16-12.

Train was similar to Inferno, where FaZe led 11-4 on the CT side after a couple of back and forth rounds and looked on course for a crushing victory, before Cloud9 managed 4 rounds at the start of the 2nd half to make matters more interesting. A masterclass by Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács however, including a breathtaking 1v4 ace clutch ensured FaZe would take home the trophy in style by a score of 16-9.

This tournament will be a massive boost to FaZe, who have had a patchy few months, and would now look to build on this performance into the Katowice Major next month. As for Cloud9, while it is a tough pill to swallow, there are many positives to take from the event as they too look to develop with their recent roster changes.

All-Aussie affair at Asia Minor as Renegades, Grayhound grab IEM Katowice spot

Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi! The Asia Minor for IEM Katowice 2019 has come to an end. And to the delight of every CSGO fan down under, Renegades and Grayhound ensured an Australian 1-2, grabbing both the spots, with Vici Gaming dropping to play the IEM Katowice Minor Play-ins.

Renegades and Grayhound were both stationed in Group A. With Tyloo already at the IEM Katowice Main Qualifiers, Renegades were expected to dominate the Minor. But, their sailing was far from smooth.

While they progressed through Group A with breeze, the Upper Bracket semi-final against Vici saw them struggle to an extent before closing it out on three maps. A rematch of the Group A Winners Match happened at the Upper Bracket Finals of the Minor, with Grayhound taking the game to Renegades this time around.

In what was a closely contested series all through the three maps, Renegades somehow prevailed, thanks in large to the explosive duo of jks and jkaem, thus joining their near-eternal Asian rivals Tyloo at the IEM Katowice Major Qualifiers.

Coming on to Grayhound, their path was riddled with hard-fought victories. The Australian organization led by Mongolian IGL erkaSt were chasing the game almost every time. Overcoming CyberZen in the Group A decider to pull through and set up a semi-final date with MVP PK, they had to dig deep to come back after losing the first map.

They rode on the back of erkaSt’s powerhouse 72-44 K/D performance to qualify for the Upper Bracket Finals, thus securing atleast a place at the IEM Katowice Minor Play-ins. They ran Renegades close but ultimately fell, which meant it was going to be a best of 3 with Vici which would decide whether they grab a spot at IEM Katowice or have to go through the Minor Play-ins.

16-6 exchanges between the two teams set up a pulsating Dust2 as the decider, with Vici finishing the first-half with a narrow 9-6 lead. But, some brilliant defence from Grayhound ensured they closed out the map 16-13, thus ensuring a spot at IEM Katowice Main Qualifiers and more importantly, Grayhound stickers. (Dickstacy stickers incoming!!!)

At the time of speaking, Vici has upset North at the IEM Katowice Minor Play-ins 16-8 and set up a date with Winstrike in the Upper Bracket Final. A fourth Asian team at IEM Katowice perhaps?
