Counter-Strike 2 brought a host of new elements to CS:GO without changing the fundamentals which would retain the player base while giving an improved experience to keep up with its competitors in 2024.

Ever since its inception, Counter-Strike has been limited to PC and PC only which led many to believe that CS2 might get a console variant allowing players to play across platforms but sadly it isn’t the case. Like all its previous iterations, CS2 is for PC gamers only.

Now many may wonder why the developers did not let the game enter the waters of Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox but there are very solid reasons for them the keep the game restricted to users of a single platform.

The success of CS2 remains largely connected to its thriving esports scene which has been building around the PC version for ages. Expanding to other platforms will bring a host of issues along with competitive integrity and input device mechanic issues.

Other FPS like CoD or Apex Legends have a seamless console experience but for the same to happen for CS2 poses serious challenges. The biggest one is that CS2 players largely prefer PC given the difficult-to-master mechanics of the game sit better with mouse and keyboard which may not translate well when playing on a console.

Neither has Valve announced a version for other platforms nor has it expressed its desire to release one in the future. While this may sound displeasing for console gamers, it is important for Valve to keep the game limited to PC for its benefits.

In a move that will undoubtedly shake up the competitive Counter-Strike scene, Lotan “Spinx” Giladi has officially joined MOUZ. The Israeli rifler, renowned for his exceptional aim and impactful playmaking, arrives from Vitality following a successful but ultimately challenging stint with the French giants.

Spinx’s departure from Vitality comes after a period of internal turmoil within the team. Despite achieving significant victories, including the prestigious BLAST Paris Major, the team struggled to maintain consistent dominance in 2024. This led to Spinx exploring other options earlier in the year, though he ultimately remained with Vitality and contributed to their IEM Cologne triumph.

However, as the new competitive season commenced, it became clear that a change of scenery was necessary for Spinx. Fortunately, the recent shake-up within the MOUZ roster, stemming from differing visions for the team’s future, presented an unexpected opportunity for the talented Israeli.

MOUZ, facing internal challenges, sought to reinforce their roster and identified Spinx as the ideal candidate to fill the void left by the benching of in-game leader Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek. Spinx is expected to assume a key role as a rotating lurker, complementing Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin’s transition to captaincy.

While fans eagerly anticipate Spinx’s debut in MOUZ colors, they will have to wait a few weeks. Due to the roster lock for the upcoming IEM Katowice, Spinx will not be eligible to compete in the Polish event. Instead, academy player Adrian “xelex” Vincze will step in as a stand-in. In a continued effort to uphold competitive integrity, PGL, a leading tournament organizer in the Dota 2 esports scene, has issued bans to four players for their involvement in match-fixing during the DreamLeague Season 24: North America Open Qualifier 1.

The sanctioned players are:

  • Mkid 影 (Kyrgyzstan)
  • Pcyscho (Russia)
  • Lanzarote (Ukraine)
  • Heaven_1 (also known as Kohxi/Kohol, Ukraine)

Despite participating in the North American qualifier, these players are based in Eastern Europe and competed remotely.

Competing under the team name “unknown,” they advanced to the Closed Qualifier in September 2024 but were eliminated by Apex Genesis (now Wildcard Gaming).

PGL’s investigation uncovered evidence of their involvement in match-fixing during the Open Qualifier, leading to their bans.

This development follows a recent wave of sanctions in the North American Dota 2 scene.

Earlier this month, PGL banned five players—Cloud (KK), Muhammad “high_shaggy” Ghaznavi (Saadman01), Sonic, ValOdbka, and Dmytro (Logan)—for similar offenses.

For the uninitiated, Rank Shields were added to the competitive mode with the newly-introduced Valorant 10.1 patch. The update also brings a few other changes to the shooter, including bug fixes for Tejo and some improvements to Premier.

But what exactly is the Rank Shield in Valorant, and how will it protect you from deranking?

In this article, we will take a look at everything you need to know about the new Rank Shield in Valorant, including its function, and how you can use it to avoid deranking.

Valorant Rank Shield: How To Use It?

As mentioned earlier, the new Rank Shield will enable you to prevent yourself from deranking in Valorant.

Here’s how it works:

  • Players are given two Rank Shields when they are in Tier 1 of any rank except Radiant.
  • Tier 1 ranks include Iron 1, Bronze 1, Silver 1, Gold 1, Platinum 1, Diamond 1, Ascendant 1, and Immortal 1.
  • Once a player loses a game with 0 RR, one shield is consumed.
  • Losing again at 0 RR consumes the second shield.
  • If you have no Rank Shields remaining, losing a game will demote you to the previous rank.
  • This means that you’ll effectively have to lose three games while at 0 RR to get demoted to a lower division.
  • No additional Rank Shields will be provided at Tier 2 and Tier 3 of any rank.
  • Rank Shields will only be replenished if a player enters Tier 1 of a rank via promotion or demotion.

Note that once you’ve consumed a Rank Shield in Valorant, you won’t be able to replenish it till you leave your current rank tier. For instance, going to 10 RR from 0 RR will not replenish your Rank Shield.

Overall, the Rank Shield is meant to provide you with a couple of additional layers of protection when you’re on the verge of deranking to a lower division.

While a portion of the community is viewing this as a positive change, a lot of Valorant players have also expressed concerns about MMR inflation. This issue has persisted in the game for a while, largely due to the lack of hard rank resets, and it appears to be further exacerbated by the introduction of Rank Shields.

The International 2025 Location Revealed By Valve

While The International 2025 is still a few months away, Valve has officially confirmed the venue for the upcoming Dota 2 event in a surprise announcement on January 21st.

The blog post by the devs confirmed that The International will be returning to Germany for its 14th edition, sparking excitement within the game’s community.

For the uninitiated, The International is the biggest annual Dota 2 tournament and one of the most significant tournaments in all of esports, renowned for its gigantic prize pools and intense, high-level competition.

Valve Reveals the Venue for The International 2025 

As disclosed by Valve, The International 2025 will be held in Hamburg, Germany, at the 16,000-seat Barclays Arena. The event is scheduled to take place from September 11th to 14th.

This marks the first time The International is held in Germany since its inaugural tournament in 2011, which took place at Gamescom in Cologne.

In the announcement, Valve further revealed that the sixteen teams attending TI14 will be “a mix of open qualifiers, regional qualifiers, and direct invitations.” However, the finer details of the invites and qualifiers are yet to be confirmed.
