Map 1: Abyss; Pick: G2; Winner: Vitality
Starting on their offence with a 4-0 streak, Vitality put G2 on the back foot early. Losing the edge on their comfort map pick, G2 pulled in 3 rounds, closing the half with a poor 9-3 deficit. The poor start turned around as G2’s 4-0 start narrowed the lead in no time. With momentum shifting both ways, G2 levelled the scoreline with 11 rounds each. Vitality, from the edge of losing it, pulled in the final two rounds and walked away with a close win to open the series. A 22/18 Yoru masterclass from Jamppi saw his side secure a 13-11 win in Abyss.
Map 2: Split; Pick: Vitality; Winner: Vitality
Converting the pistol, G2 managed to drop the ball as the first gun round went the way of Vitality. Not only did they level the scoreline, but Vitality managed to take away the lead, leaving G2 with nothing more than 4 rounds for the entirety of the first half. Closing their offence with an 8-4 lead, Vitality’s second half started on a better note as they remained flawless for the remainder of the game and closed the map with a 13-4 scoreline. In what can be seen as a brilliant team performance, Derke topped the charts with Yoru, following in Jamppi’s footsteps from the previous map.
With a squad full of talented upstarts, Vitality have secured a very important win in the event. With a big name pushed to the wayside early on, Vitality will have the confidence and the belief in their abilities as they are set to face tougher challenges down the line. The Upper Bracket Grand Final against LOUD will come with its own set of challenges, but something tells us they are more than ready for it.
