The Calamity Discord was hacked on October 9, 2026, and used to push a crypto pump-and-dump to more than 250,000 members. The server owner reportedly gave access to two users who posed as former moderators. One of them later said they were Kata, a hacker tied to dozens of Discord server takeovers over the last two years.
The r/CalamityMod subreddit posted an emergency warning about an hour after the scam began. “If you are in the discord server, LEAVE THE DISCORD SERVER,” the moderators wrote. Tens of thousands of users left within two days, Kotaku reported.

What Happened to the Calamity Discord Server?
It started with a ping. On October 9, a server-wide notification hit every member of the Calamity community, and plenty of them hoped it meant the mod was coming back.
It did not. The ping kicked off a promotion for a brand-new cryptocurrency named after the Calamity mod.
The coin’s name, ticker and trading figures have not been published in any report so far. What is known is the pattern. Scammers hyped the coin to a quarter of a million people, then dumped it once the community was warned.
How Did the Hackers Take Over the Calamity Discord?
Two users convinced the server owner that they were former Calamity moderators. The owner handed over access. The previous owner later confirmed the compromise in a separate post.
Once the scam was exposed, one of the pair revealed they were Kata. The second account may be a Kata alt or a friend, though that detail is unconfirmed.
Kata has reportedly hijacked dozens of popular Discord servers in the past two years. Some users on X described the attacker as a known Roblox hacker, a claim TalkEsport could not verify.
How a Former Moderator Stopped the Crypto Scam
The hackers missed one account. A former moderator still held admin powers and used them to “nuke” the server, wiping its channels and message history.
That cut the promotion off at the source. It also erased years of community history, which some members called a loss on X.
Only one channel, #announce, now remains. Messages there from a hacker claim “no crypto slop will be posted” and that “some wrong people got permissions.” Neither line has been verified, so treat that account as hostile.

Why the Calamity Discord Was an Easy Target
Calamity had been without an active team for two months. On August 10, the developers said they were ending work on the mod and called its reputation “irrecoverably tainted,”.
The shutdown followed allegations that lead developer Ozzatron endangered minors through a separate NSFW server. Former leader Fabisol faced similar accusations in 2022. Both sets of claims remain allegations.
That left a server of 250,000 people with an absent team, a moderation group in flux and a fanbase desperate for good news. A ping that looked like news about the mod’s future was the hook the scammers used.
Money was already a sore point too. Team members said they were owed bounties and “several thousand” dollars in saved Patreon funds. Streamer xQc floated buying the mod in August, but moderators said that offer was rejected.
Is the Calamity Discord Safe to Join Right Now?
No. Treat the server as compromised until the community confirms a new, verified home.
The hack hit the Discord server. No report so far says the Calamity mod files on the Steam Workshop were changed, and the mod has more than 9 million Workshop subscribers.
What Calamity Discord Members Should Do Now
Leave the server if you are still in it. Do not buy, sell or “claim” the Calamity coin, and never connect a crypto wallet to a link posted there.
A pump-and-dump inflates a price with false hype, then the promoters sell and the price collapses, as the SEC’s Investor.gov glossary explains. Late buyers carry the loss. Gaming crowds keep getting targeted this way, as seen when leaker Cyberleek tied a GTA 6 leak threat to its own meme coin.
Turn on two-factor authentication and ignore DMs from anyone claiming to be Calamity staff. Discord’s scam safety guide also warns against unverified links, unknown QR codes and anyone rushing you to act.
No public statement from Discord has been reported so far. The platform has faced pressure over leaks before, including the GTA 6 subpoena Take-Two sought from Discord.
