To play Black Ops 1 Zombies in your browser, open vel.gg/bo1z in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a desktop, turn on hardware acceleration, and pick a map. It is a free fan port with all 10 maps, solo only. Activision did not make it and could take it down at any time.
Game index sites that list the port call it a fan project with no tie to Activision or Treyarch. Activision owns every asset in it and has shut down fan projects built on its games in the past. Try it this week if you’re curious.
Other mid-2000s games have landed in browsers this year too. We walked through one of them in our guide on how to play GTA Vice City in your browser, and the same warnings about unofficial hosting apply here.
Which Zombies maps are included?
The port carries all ten maps from the 2010 release. That means the two launch maps, the four DLC map packs, and the World at War remasters Treyarch bundled into Rezurrection:
- Kino der Toten (base game)
- Five (base game)
- Ascension (First Strike, 2011)
- Call of the Dead (Escalation, 2011)
- Shangri-La (Annihilation, 2011)
- Moon (Rezurrection, 2011)
- Nacht der Untoten, Verrückt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese (remastered in Rezurrection)
PC players in 2011 paid for four separate map packs on top of the base game to get that set. In the browser, you pick any of them from one menu. Wall buys, the Mystery Box, perk machines, Pack-a-Punch, the power switch and Der Riese’s teleporters all work the way veterans remember, and rounds escalate on the original schedule.
We couldn’t confirm Dead Ops Arcade, the top-down twin-stick mode you unlocked by typing “DOA” into the main menu terminal. None of the coverage we checked lists it in the port.
How do you play Black Ops 1 Zombies in a browser?
Open the vel.gg page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a desktop. The tab streams in the game files, you pick a map, and you start shooting. No account, no installer, and on a decent PC the whole thing takes about a minute.

Turn on hardware acceleration before you start. With it off, your CPU does the rendering and you’ll get slideshow frame rates. In Chrome or Edge, open Settings, go to System, switch on “Use graphics acceleration when available” and relaunch. In Firefox, open Settings > General > Performance and tick “Use hardware acceleration when available.”
Four more tips:
- Play on a desktop or laptop. The port expects keyboard and mouse, and phones and tablets can’t run it properly.
- Swap browsers if it stutters. Frame rates differ between browsers on the same machine, so move from Chrome to Edge or Firefox before you give up.
- Expect dips on bigger maps. Players report the worst drops on the larger DLC maps, once a full horde fills the screen.
- Close any page that asks for a download. The real port runs in the tab. If a copycat site pushes a “launcher” or an
.exe, leave.

What can’t the browser version do?
You lose co-op. The 2010 game let four players team up online or two share a couch in split-screen, and a lot of fans first played Zombies on a friend’s sofa. In the browser, you face the horde alone.
The port also lists no controller support and says nothing about save data, so start each session expecting a fresh run. Nobody at Activision maintains it, and bugs will stay until the anonymous developer gets around to them.
If you want to relearn Kino’s window routes or chase a personal best on Nacht, none of that gets in your way.
Why does a 2010 mode still pull this much attention?
Black Ops sold more than 5.6 million copies in its first 24 hours across the US and UK, according to Wikipedia’s entry on Call of Duty: Black Ops. Activision reported $1 billion in revenue by December 22, 2010, and more than 25 million copies sold by August 2011.
Zombies drove a lot of that. World at War introduced the mode as a bonus, and Black Ops built it out with a named crew (Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo and Richtofen), a story that ran across maps, and strange celebrity cameos. Five dropped JFK, Nixon, McNamara and Castro into the Pentagon. Call of the Dead cast Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robert Englund, Danny Trejo and Michael Rooker as themselves.
Treyarch has leaned on that nostalgia for years. Black Ops Cold War, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 all build their Zombies modes on the round-based loop Kino der Toten set in 2010.
How can you play Black Ops 1 Zombies officially?
You have two licensed options in 2026. Steam still sells the original PC release with Zombies included, though you’ll pay extra for the four map packs.
Console players have a newer route. Treyarch announced this year that Iron Galaxy would port Black Ops and Black Ops 2 to PS4 and PS5, and tbreak reported that the studio made straight conversions with no remaster or remake work. Wikipedia dates the PlayStation release of Black Ops to July 9, 2026, and you can find it on the official PlayStation store page. Those versions give you online co-op, and Activision supports them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Black Ops 1 Zombies in the browser free?
Yes. You pay nothing, and you don’t need to own the game or sign in.
Is the browser port legal?
Activision and Treyarch own the game and haven’t licensed this fan project. Activision can file a takedown at any point. We’re not lawyers, so if that worries you, buy the Steam or PlayStation version.
Can I play browser Black Ops Zombies with friends?
No. The port supports one player, with no online co-op or split-screen.
Why is the game laggy in my browser?
You probably have hardware acceleration switched off. Turn it on in your browser settings, restart the browser, and try a different browser if the frame rate stays low.
Does it work on mobile?
The developer built it for desktop browsers with keyboard and mouse. Phones and tablets won’t give you a playable experience.
