Faker Turns Down Multi-Million Dollar Offers from LCS Teams

Renowned as the greatest League of Legends player of all time, Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok, has remained loyal to his team T1 throughout his impressive career. Despite receiving enticing multi-million dollar offers from LCS teams, the South Korean mid laner turned them down, choosing to stay with T1. Let’s delve into the details of this remarkable decision and the potential opportunities that Faker rejected.

Faker’s Storied Legacy with T1

Since joining T1 in 2013, Faker has etched his name in the annals of League of Legends history. As T1’s longtime mid laner, he has accumulated an extraordinary list of achievements over the past decade. With three League of Legends World Championship trophies, two Mid-Season Invitational titles, and numerous victories in the League of Legends Champions Korea league, Faker’s impact on the game is unparalleled.

Multi-Million Dollar Offers on the Table

During the 2022-23 League of Legends offseason, Faker explored his options beyond T1 and received tempting offers from both Chinese and North American LCS teams. However, he made the surprising decision to reject them. According to a report by blix.gg, the offers from the LCS teams were valued in the range of $3,000,000 to $5,000,000 annually.

FlyQuest and Team Liquid in the Running

Two prominent LCS teams, FlyQuest and Team Liquid, emerged as potential destinations for Faker. FlyQuest presented him with an annual salary in the previously mentioned million-dollar range, while Team Liquid’s offer reportedly exceeded that figure. The allure of Team Liquid was particularly intriguing to Faker, given the organization’s efforts to build a Korean-speaking roster. Notably, their roster included three players from South Korea: Park ‘Summit’ Woo-tae, Jo ‘CoreJJ’ Yong-in, and the 2022 world champion Hong ‘Pyosik’ Chang-hyeon.

T1’s Response and Faker’s Loyalty

During the offseason, T1 contemplated the possibility of replacing Faker but ultimately chose to retain him. The report suggests that T1’s counteroffer to Faker came close to matching Team Liquid’s proposal, solidifying Faker’s position within the team. With this decision, Faker reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to T1, the organization that nurtured and supported his illustrious career.

Despite receiving lucrative multi-million dollar offers from LCS teams, Faker remained resolute in his commitment to T1. The League of Legends legend turned down the allure of new opportunities, choosing to stay with the team that has been his home since the beginning. As the 2023 season unfolds, Faker continues to compete with T1, aiming to add more accolades to his already impressive resume.

Let’s delve into the details of this remarkable Pride event happening this year.

In a groundbreaking move, Overwatch is officially recognizing Pride Month, celebrating and promoting inclusivity within the LGBTQ+ community. These map adjustments parallel the seasonal transformations witnessed in other maps, such as Eichenwalde during Halloween, Kings Row during Christmas, and Lijiang Tower during the Lunar New Year.

Accompanying the Pride Event is a captivating short story titled “As You Are,” crafted by the developers to provide players with an engaging narrative and prepare them for upcoming Player vs. Environment (PvE) events.

The story revolves around Baptiste, Pharah, and Cassidy as they return from a mission in Seoul. Baptiste reflects on his time in Talon, his recruitment into Overwatch, and his interactions with fellow members of the Overwatch team. This immersive storytelling adds depth to the Overwatch universe, allowing players to connect with the characters on a more personal level.

During the Pride Event, players will have the opportunity to acquire an exciting range of new icons, name cards, and a special spray. These rewards will be automatically added to every player’s account on June 1, as well as to all future accounts. The player icons and name cards feature a diverse collection of LGBTQ+ flags, enabling players to proudly display their unique sexual orientations and identities.

Why LCS players staged walked out? LCSPA vs Riot controversy explained

The LCS Summer Split has become a hot topic of conversation as the league’s players voted overwhelmingly on May 28 to stage an unprecedented walkout. This incident took place in light of disagreements between Riot Games and the LCSPA regarding crucial matters concerning the future of the North American League of Legends.

The longstanding tension between Riot Games and the LCSPA has evolved into something that no esports has witnessed before. In March 2020, the players’ association voted to cancel the remaining matches of the Spring Split due to the global health crisis however Riot ultimately decided to proceed with both the LCS and the academy league in an online format to everyone’s disappointment.

LCSPA vs Riot controversy

The majority of the ten LCS teams announced their withdrawal from the NACL ahead of the Summer Split, leaving only FlyQuest, Team Liquid, and Evil Geniuses as the remaining participants. Riot’s announcement prompted a swift reaction from the LCS Players Association (LCSPA), who criticized the developer for prioritizing the teams’ interests and jeopardizing the future of the NACL.

In a statement, the association expressed their disappointment, stating that Riot had failed to present any strategy to ensure the NACL’s sustainability as a valuable talent pool for North America.

“The LCSPA sincerely hopes Riot will avert this walkout by joining us in the coming days to have open and transparent discussions so that we can forge collaborative solutions to ensure the best futures for the LCS and the NACL,” reads the LCSPA statement.

The LCSPA has put forward the following demands:

  • Implement a promotion and relegation system similar to that of Valorant between the LCS and NACL.
  • Allow LCS organizations to form partnerships with affiliates to share costs.
  • Riot should commit to a revenue pool dedicated to player salaries, providing $300,000 per year for each NACL team.
  • Introduce a 3/5 roster continuity rule, granting priority to players from released NACL rosters to maintain their slots in the upcoming NACL season if a majority of the team continues to compete together.
  • Riot must guarantee minimum contracts for the following year’s LCS to the five players who emerge as champions in the LCS summer finals each year.

Recent reports indicate that Riot Games is showing strong determination to proceed with the planned LCS schedule. In order to ensure that every organization has a prepared roster, the developer has made some concessions. They are permitting LCS teams to sign additional players even after the deadline and have temporarily eliminated the solo queue ranking requirements, at least for the opening weekend. These measures are being taken to guarantee that all teams are equipped and ready to participate in the LCS.

Disguised Toast reveals his esports ventures’ massive loss

Popular streamer Jeremy Wang aka “Disguised Toast,” has recently revealed the economic losses he incurred from the world of esports, following starting a professional organization.

The renowned content creator, who gained recognition for his Among Us gameplay and other puzzle titles, has embarked on this esports journey, and after being involved in the esports scene for several months, his organization called DSG, is facing significant financial losses.

Disguised Toast recently ventured into the second division VCT competition and signed the likes of Jacob “yay” Whittaker and managed to build a team around it but success hasn’t come their way as much as they expected.

While these investments weren’t made to be profitable this soon but Disguised Toast has now made a shocking disclosure. He revealed that his esports ventures have been projected to result in a net loss of approximately $992,350 by the end of 2023.

“If you guys see an increase in sponsored posts from me these next few months, it’s because I’ve literally said yes to every opportunity since each deal keeps DSG alive for another month,” he said.

These losses are certainly a major setback but that doesn’t look to have demotivated Toast from moving forward with his organization and with more tournaments lining up, it is only a matter of time before he sees success.

Hiko contemplates a return to Counter-Strike 2

Martin “Hiko” Spencer is considering a return to the Counter-Strike scene despite the fact that his popularity and following have skyrocketed since he first entered the VALORANT scene several years ago.

Hiko, aka Spencer Martin, used to play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive but has now switched to Valorant. With 100 Thieves, he dominated the VCT Challengers and North American First Strike before retiring to focus on streaming last year.

After having tried his luck at Valorant after realizing his options in Counter-Strike for advancing his career were exceedingly restricted in North America. He was eventually signed by 100 Thieves as their professional Valorant player where he contributed to the team’s top-four finish at VCT 2021: Stage 3 Masters Berlin.

But after his team’s exit from the VCT NA Stage 1 Challengers in April 2022, Hiko decided to leave the active squad and take on streaming and content creation for 100 Thieves. After a decade spent at the top of his game in Counter-Strike 1.6, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Valorant, Spencer ‘Hiko’ Martin announced his retirement from professional gaming in April 2022.

Hiko has announced that he will be playing Counter-Strike 2 regularly alongside other streamers and content makers after its release this summer. “I do kind of miss this game,” he said on a recent CSGO stream.

The Counter-Strike community would welcome Hiko’s comeback because it still lacks well-known streamers and content providers who can appeal to a broad audience.

Hiko has had an impressive CSGO career, having competed for teams like Complexity and Cloud9 as well as Team Liquid. Among his most notable professional accomplishments are semi-final appearances at DreamHack Winter 2013 and MLG Columbus 2016, and a finals performance at ESL One Cologne 2016.

“I think I’ll make a comeback to CS when CS 2 comes out. I do kind of miss this game. The community in general is just better. The Valorant community is a little cringe to me, and probably because I’m older…”

Hiko said on one of his streams.

The 33-year-old reflected on his experiences in the CS and VALORANT communities’ age difference.

“The Counter-Strike community in general is just better,” he said. “The Valorant community is a little cringe to me, probably because I’m just older. I think the average age in most of the CS people is higher than the Valorant people.”

IEM Dallas 2023: Day 2 Recap

The ESL-powered Intel Extreme Masters: Dallas 2023 is finally underway and we have here with us a quick recap of the happenings around Day 2 of the tournament.

Before we nosedive into the same, IEM Dallas 2023 features 16 teams who have set sail on North American soil with their eyes on the Championship and a juicy $100,000 USD lion’s share from the prize money. North American-Russian side Cloud9 will be looking to defend their title from the 2022 iteration.

Day 2 in Dallas started off with Evil Geniuses almost forcing a 3rd map upon Complexity with the latter somehow escaping the chokehold. Evil Geniuses looked absolutely listless on Anubis after Ioannis ‘Johnny’ “JT” Theodosiou shut down their North American counterparts 16-2. Despite getting off on a commanding start on Overpass, EG were just not able to convert their momentum into forcing Inferno.

While on the other stream, we saw ENCE push FaZe Clan Down to the lower bracket after having booked themselves a spot in the playoffs. FaZe Clan will have to play Team Liquid in order to qualify further. Liquid who were earlier beaten by Astralis in their UB run now fight for survival.

Reigning Dallas 2022 champions Cloud9 were also toppled by Astralis, 16-8 on both maps. Cloud9 face Complexity in the Lower Bracket and will need to win both their fixtures as they would then await to play the winner from Liquid/FaZe clash.

Grayhound did turn some heads after they put up a strong show against Liquid, forcing North American-Latvian members out of their comfort zones. Critics on Twitter did favor the hounds, who could have won the series if only they had a coach behind them. Despite getting eliminated from the competition, Grayhound seem to be on the course of bringing Australian Counter Strike back into the fold.

The final day of IEM Dallas 2023 will see 6 teams lock horns for the last 2 spots at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. Below we have attached the Day 3 schedule from both groups.

Group A

  • MOUZ Vs OG // 01:00 AM IST // Winner qualifies for Playoffs
  • Heroic Vs G2 // 01:00 AM IST // Winner grabs the Semi-final spot at the playoffs

Group B

  • Cloud9 Vs Complexity // 21:30 PM IST // Winner advances for LB Finals, Losing team is eliminated
  • Team Liquid Vs FaZe Clan // 21:30 PM IST // Winner advances for LB Finals, Losing team is eliminated
  • ENCE Vs Astralis // 04:30 AM IST // Winner grabs the Semi-final spot in the playoffs

Final Scores from Day 2

  • Cloud9 0-2 Astralis
  • Complexity 2-0 Evil Geniuses
  • FaZe Clan 0-2 ENCE
