DotA Tournament Held As Part of Rehab Program In Philippines Jail

A news network of the Philippines has reported that the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Baguio City, Philippines has hosted a LAN tournament of the Warcraft 3 mod DotA for inmates to develop their mental state.

The news which was first reported by Flipino radio station “95.7 Brigada News FM Koronadal” shows a DotA tournament being held inside the walls of the Baguio City Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) with the inmates participating in the LAN tournament as a part of their rehab program.

The inmates were all supplied with face masks which is necessary to check the spread of COVID-19 during the ongoing pandemic.

Defence of the Ancients (DotA) is a complex team-based strategy game requiring immense focus and critical thinking to come out on top of the other team, making the game an ideal choice for playing with an aim at rehabilitation of inmates. Besides this DotA is still a widely popular game in the Philippines, although not nearly as much as its successor, DotA 2. The game is often compared to Chess, but with even more complexity added to it.

The radio station has also shared multiple pictures of the tournament showing the inmates participating in it from inside the prison walls.

Since the post was uploaded to Facebook, it has gained a huge amount of traction among people worldwide, many of whom are praising the jail authorities in the Philippines for attempting such a creative and unique way for the rehab of prisoners.

Call of Duty: Mobile to add Gunsmith feature in the Season 9 update

Call of Duty:Mobile is going to add Gunsmith in the next season’s update which will allow players to freely customize their weapon of choice and add cosmetic skins and stickers to their loadout.

Call of Duty:Mobile was recently teasing about addition of a new ‘customization’ feature that will be released in the upcoming update. The official handle on Twitter posted about this saying “Customization is the future” and apparently the feature is going to be Gunsmith and the concept seems to be a ripoff from Call of Duty’s other title named “Modern Warfare”.

The official handle also announced about this new feature coming in the next season, along with a trailer video which shows many new features that will be added under Gunsmith.

The new feature allows the players to add any sort of attachments to their guns as they would prefer and create their own ultimate weapon to take into multiplayer and battle royale as well. All sorts of attachments such as scopes, muzzles and grips and much more can be customized. The video above showcases some new attachments as well so players can be more creative in customizing their weapons.

Players can also change and upgrade their gun skins to their liking. With the addition of new stickers that can be applied on the skins, players can glorify their own ultimate weapon in battles. There are four sticker slots so probably only four sticker sites will be present on guns. The stickers can be added in Season 9 Battle Pass or presumably be available in the shop as well.

The new addition allows Call of Duty:Mobile to enter a new realm of customization and the player base to be more unique in their choices. This may also change the way the matches are played right now and some new meta shifts can be seen in the upcoming Call of Duty:Mobile World Championship.

Valorant: Riot disables Ascent map in competitive mode due to Faulty Wall exploit

0

Valorant on their Twitter have addressed about a wall bug on their Map Ascent because of which they have decided to temporarily discontinue it from the match-making algorithm.

This issue was first brought under light by Oscar “Mixwell” Cañellas when he reported a clip from Martin “Hiko” Spencer’s stream. In the clip, it is seen that, as Hiko is about to push catwalk with his team, the planted turret of his began to pick something. To his surprise he didn’t see anyone pass through the A-mains but instead the turret was trying to signal an enemy who was hiding in right side connector. It was later revealed that one of his teammates did take down one who was actually hiding over there. One can clearly assess from the clip attached below.

In the comments section, yet another similar case was reported by a Twitter user where he was able to revive a guy who was dead on the other side of the wall.

This was done by him in a custom game which clearly defines that the wall behind the “Right Side Connector” area is reportedly bugged and needs to be fixed as soon as possible by Riot before the community starts exploiting it. But we can surely bank on the Developer team at Riot as Anna Donlon, Executive Director of Valorant did revert to this on Mixwell’s Tweet.

CSGO: Team Liquid sign Grim

As reported earlier by Jarek “Dekay” Lewis, Michael “Grim” Vince is all set to open for Team Liquid as the North American Organization has permanently replaced nitr0 with the 19yo prodigy.

Before being picked by Team Liquid, Grim was seen anchoring the weight for his now-former team Triumph, where he was known for his precise aim and valiant efforts. He rose to the supremacy after some brilliant exhibits against top-rated teams in North America which do include Cloud9, Evil Geniuses and Gen.G at events like the Blast Premier Americas Showdown and cs_summit 6 NA Regional Qualifier as well.

With over a rating of 1.30 from key tournaments, Michael has now been summoned by one among the prestigious teams in NA, for filling in the void that nitr0 left after he decided to step down from the roster.

Grim will play his debut match for Team Liquid at the DreamHack Open Summer event which is scheduled to kick from 8th of August onwards. Co-incidentally he will be facing his former teammates who join Liquid in the same group followed by Ze PUG Godz and Chaos which is currently led by Joshua “Steel” Nissan and his men.

Team V3nom wins Valorant Invitational tournament by Nodwin Gaming

0

Team V3nom started the match off on the right foot, securing a quick 4-1 lead on their Attacking side pistol with a B site execution where Akshay “KappA” Sinkar and Abhijeet “Robo” sadhu pierced through Global Esports’s defence. But after getting their economy back on track, GE did manage to hold off their opponents two rounds in a row, bringing the deficit down to 4-4, thanks to Vatsal “Nghtmre2k” Uniyal’s unexpected A site defence where he shut down the plans of the Spike carrier and his troops who previously tried to fake the B site.

But Team V3nom made sure to neutralize this humiliation which was anchored by Ankit “V3nom” Panth the captain himself, who quickly opened the A site with some quick entries hence culminating his efforts into an Ace. After settling on a score of 5-7 on the switch, GE did try to lay their dominance but failed as they were stopped by the reinforcements set up by Ankit and his men. Collective efforts from Karan “Excali” Mhaswadkar and Robo finally pushed it over the line for their team hence clinching the map Bind, 13-6.

The second map which started on Split seemed to barely be a contest for Global Esports after being constantly sniped by Simar “Psy” Sethi in the middle powered by Excali and his horrendous rifle rounds. A massive team fight did transition GE’s efforts on the board as they managed to bag a round in their favor.

With little room for error, Excali and Robo made sure about GE not running away with yet another round win as the latter were seen cursing their luck due to some network issues and outages. With Vatsal “Nghtmre2k” and his men looking destitute and listless, Split saw a barely contested first half for the former as they got simply out-aimed and out-gunned by Team V3nom.

Despite Nghtmre2k’s trying to hard-carry his team to map three, Team V3nom did put Global Esports out of its misery by winning the game 13-1 thus winning Nodwin’s Valornt Invitational and walking away with a big chunk of 75K INR from the prize money.

Report: Over 500,000 INR in prize money from ILG Circuit unpaid by LXG

LXG are reportedly yet to pay out a chunk of the prize money from their ILG Circuit to the winners and other placeholders. Several teams from different esports disciplines have come forward with information about their yet-unpaid prize money and their series of conversations with the ILG Staff with no resolution till date.

The total amount due runs up to more than 500,000 INR along with the prospect that there are a few teams who might also be owed the prize money that we were unable to reach.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive

One of the most renowned teams to come forward – District 9 gained a lot of popularity within the scene with their performances in 2019. The squad won two ILG Ahmedabad Minors – August and December, 2019 – with a total prize money of 105,000 INR accrued. Jainam ‘JK_Paradize’ Khara confirmed the due amount along with the fact that they had conversations over the same with the ILG Staff, who continued to provide new dates.

Himanshu ‘JLT’ Khanduja played for Domin8 Esports in the ILG Indore Minor held in September, 2019 and won the first prize of 70,000 INR. JLT iterated that he had grown tired of waiting for the prize money or a response from the LXG staff.

There is a peculiar case in Kolkata, wherein Team Lan Dodgers claim to be due 10,000 INR for a Minor held in July, 2018. In other cases of prize money related to Kolkata, Team Destiny accrued 30,000 INR in prize money by finishing second in two separate Minors held in August and October, 2019 respectively. That money is still unpaid.

Go Figure, the core of which now play under Level Zero Esports, are owed 100,000 INR of prize money for finishing fourth in the ILG LAN Grand Finals. They expect their issue to be resolved within the month of August, having talked to the LXG staff regarding the same.

Team Wicked Gaming are owed 35,000 INR for coming second in the Guwahati CSGO Minor held in July, 2019. The prize money for the Bhopal CSGO Minor held in October, 2019 is also yet to be paid out, with Knockturnal Esports and Team MYM due 70,000 INR and 30,000 INR respectively.

Dota 2

Team Quasar won 30,000 INR of prize money as a result of finishing second at the ILG Season 3 Bhopal Minor in August, 2019, which is still unpaid. Siddharth Singh Baghel revealed that they had multiple conversations regarding the prize money and were recently told that they would receive it in the last week of July, which has now passed without any resolution.

Arc Warden Bois won a total of 50,000 INR in prize money by winning and finishing second at the ILG Season 3 Orissa Minors in November and July, 2019 respectively.

Strawhat Crew are due 50,000 INR from their triumph in November, 2019 at an ILG event. Subham ‘Smoke’ Kahali though, has revealed that he has been promised a resolution within the coming fortnight and has faith that LXG will follow up on it.

Team Azeroth won two ILG Orissa Minors in Week 13 and 19 of the circuit in August and October, 2019 respectively, bagging a total prize money of 100,000 INR. It is unpaid till date. Team Nefarious came second in the Delhi Minors in July, 2019 and are still owed 30,000 INR as a result.

Rainbow Six Siege

Even though the Rainbow Six Siege events were held recently in February 2020, the teams reached out to us to share their grief at not having any clarification as to when they would receive the prize money. A part of this could be contributed to the ongoing pandemic and the lockdown that affected a lot of businesses between March and May.

Still, a considerable time has passed and it would only be fair for the community to include their dues as well, with players like Tasabbir Sparko having to play with a makeshift GPU in the ESL APAC Regional Qualifiers.

Team Quantum G1 are owed 60,000 INR for winning the ILG Season 3 Rainbow Six Siege Online event. Ferrum Esports are also due 30,000 INR for coming second in the 2020 Edition of the R6 online event held in February.

The LXG Response

We reached out to LXG for a comment and were told that they expect the prize money issues to be sorted by the end of August, with the lockdown contributing to the delay, according to their private statement. The organisation did expedite payments to some teams during the lockdown phase; teams who were in immediate need of the money.

In the case of Team Go Figure for example, they received the prize money accrued as a result of winning and placing well in the Minors and have been told their dues from the LAN Finale will be cleared soon.

Concerning the peculiar case of Team Lan Dodgers not receiving their prize money from ILG Season 2 in 2018, LXG had emphasised that any prize money left unpaid is only from ILG Season 3 (2019) along with promising us proof of payment for the Lan Dodgers situation during our conversation in June. It has since been proven to us that the players failed to submit NOCs with all proper information along with other required details for months despite incessant reminders and requests from LXG’s end.

LXG are one of the premier Tournament Organisers in the Indian Esports scene and the ILG Circuit has been one of the biggest and well-managed recurring event in the country. We hope the issue is sorted amicably and the community can move on forward during these troubling times.

Valorant Update 1.05 Patch Notes Reveal Deathmatch Mode & New Agent Killjoy; Raze Nerf

0

VALORANT Patch 1.05 has went live on August 4th and it introduces a plethora of new stuff to the game for players to enjoy. The new features include a new agent, a Battle Pass, a new game mode and some nerfs to Raze’s abilities to balance her out. A reworked competitive system has also been introduced to the game and from now on, players will have an “Act Rank” at the end of every Act in the game.

Killjoy

This German agent was already announced a couple of days prior to the actual launch of the update will detailed descriptions of her skillset. Riot also released an official trailer for this new agent who primarily relies on her turrets and robots to take control of the battlefield.

Raze Nerfs

For a long time, players across all ranks have been complaining that Raze required fixes to her abilities, especially her ultimate, which is a one-hit kill (or multiple kills) if aimed correctly. This patch focuses on giving players enough time to react to her ultimate’s audio cue while simultaneously reducing the damage output of her “Blast Pack” by a margin.

Here are the changes to Raze in the latest patch as mentioned in the official changelogs.

Showstopper

  • Equip Time increased 1.1 >>> 1.4
  • Quick Equip Time increased 0.5 >>> 0.7
  • VFX reduced when firing rocket
  • VFX on rocket’s trail slightly reduced

Blast Pack

  • Damage decreased 75 >>> 50
  • Damage to objects now consistently does 600

Reworked Competitive System

Riot has introduced a new concept of “Act Ranks” in their revamped competitive system for their tactical shooter. Players have to play three more games to see their initial ranks of the Act which will likely be about two ranks under their previous rank in Act I as mentioned by Riot in their website. However, Riot has claimed that performance will have a larger impact in the early games of the Act, so players can hope to gain/lose ranks faster depending on how they perform in their initial matchmaking games.

Another interesting adjustment to the competitive system, apart from the ones previously mentioned by Riot, is that players are much more likely to be placed with and against players of similarly sized premade groups. For instance, a solo queue player will more likely be placed in a game filled with players in solo queue.

Deathmatch

A 10-player free-for-all Deathmatch mode was also introduced into the game through patch 1.05. The first player to reach 30 kills is crowned the winner in this game mode which lasts for 6 minutes per game. Players will load in the map as a random agent they own, however, no abilities can be used in this game mode. Weapons can be bought at will, and heavy armor is given automatically to all the players.

Apart from these major changes, patch 1.05 also brings a wide array of quality of life changes to the game along with several bug fixes. The complete details of the patch can be read in VALORANT’s official page here.

Call of Duty:Mobile adds Katana, a new lethal operator skill

Call of Duty: Mobile adds a new operator skill to the arsenal of weapons and unique skills. ‘Katana’ is the new skill from the ongoing The Forge season and is a close-range Operator Skill.

Katana, the lethal sword needs to be unlocked subsequently like the other operator skills and can be used in Multiplayer Mode. The Katana Operator Skill can be unlocked into the Katana Kill Challenge.

Katana is a lethal sword that has an ability to kill your opponents in a single shot but the skill is very tricky to operate as the player has to get close enough to actually activate the skill and pull off the sword swing.

Call of Duty:Mobile launches new Operator Skill 'Katana'.

A player equipping Katana can spot and lock onto the enemy player in smoke grenade so the most effective plays using this skill can be pulled off in close-quarter combats by using smokes.

Katana can be unlocked in the Featured Events section by clicking into Katana Kill Challenge. There is a list of tasks to choose from and the more task completion offers more rewards like a MW11 pistol, a sticky grenade and a Crash spray.

Enabling Katana Operator Skill switches the mode to third person perspective for a wider view and has a small lunge distance, so being within striking distance is important to utilise this skill.
