Fnatic and FPX avoid elimination at Valorant Masters Copenhagen

The Knockout action continued today at Valorant Champions Tour Masters Copenhagen with Fnatic taking on Leviatan and DRX taking on FunPlus Phoenix in an elimination BO3 game.

With tournament contention online, all the teams fought tooth and nail, with two teams getting eliminated from the competition.

Summary of Day 6 VCT Masters Copenhagen Knockout Stage.

  • Game 1: Fnatic 2-1 Leviatan
  • Game 2: DRX 0-2 FunPlus Phoenix

Game 1: Fnatic 2-1 Leviatan:

The first lower bracket game had Fnatic taking on Leviatan, and everyone expected a clean sweep from Fnatic, but Leviatan had other plans.

The game started with Fnatic’s map pick of Fracture, where while attacking, Fnatic failed to find constant success and could only scrap five rounds.

Leviatan went through a similar phase while they attacked and could only equalize the score in regulation, forcing Overtime.

The Overtime started with Fnatic winning their attacking half, and Derke’s 4k in the retake won them the defensive half closing the Game 14-12.

Play of the Map:

Player of the Map: Alfajer, KDA – 25/17/5 ACS – 289

On Ascent, Leviatan displayed why they chose the map by starting strong on the attack, but Fnatic quickly adjusted to draw the half 6-6.

Now on the attack, Fnatic struggled to find early success but managed to reach ten. Leviatan soon answered and won two rounds in a row to equalize the series at one map each.

Play of the Map:

Player of the Map: Melser, KDA – 20/11/7 ACS – 225

Bind, The decider started with Leviatan completely shutting down all the attack attempts by Fnatic initially, But Fnatic maintained their composure and managed to scrape five rounds in half.

The second half had Fnatic on defense and in control, but they failed to suppress Leviatan’s attack despite reaching the map point first and were forced into Overtime.

The Overtime started with Leviatan shutting down Fnatic’s attack and almost winning the follow-up attacking round, but a clutch from Enzo saved Fnatic.

The teams exchanged another defensive half and another attacking half, with Fnatic winning the attacking half and Enzo closing the defense half in a 1v1 helped Fnatic secure the map.

Play of the Map:

Player of the Map: Boaster, KDA – 31/20/16 ACS – 296
Player of the Series: Alfajer, KDA – 65/53/21 ACS – 230

With this, Fnatic now carries on in the tournament and will play in front of the crowd. We see Leviatan again at Valorant Champions.

Game 2: DRX 0-2 FunPlus Phoenix:

The Korean Giants DRX came into this game as the heavy favorites as they managed to make a meal out of FPX the last time they played. FPX themselves were hot from the win over Guild and, with Suygetsu back, looked stronger than ever.

The game started on Ascent, A pocket pick of FPX, but they had changed the comp to play Jett instead of Chamber. The first half of the game was very back and forth, with both teams ending the half on six rounds each.

The second half started with DRX winning the pistol and the follow-up, but FPX managed to hold off all their subsequent attack attempts to win six rounds in a row. A clutch from Zest seemed to have broken the momentum, but FPX stayed strong and consummated the map 13-9.

Play of the Map:

Player of the Map: Suygetsu, KDA – 17/12/7 ACS – 194

The second map was a quickie with DRX getting overrun with FPX’s attacks and only winning three rounds in their defensive half.

The FPX domination continued in the second half despite DRX winning the first two rounds. FPX closed the map 13-5 to win the series 2-0 and eliminate DRX.

Play of the Map:

Player of the Map: Ardiis, KDA – 24/10/2 ACS – 337
Player of the Series: Ardiis, KDA – 44/29/8 ACS – 317

FPX would now play Fnatic in the lower bracket semifinals and bring their A-game. DRX had a fantastic run, but they were the tournament favorites, and to lose at the same stage they did last time must be disappointing.

The VCT Masters Copenhagen action continues on 22nd now, where the event will feature a live audience and debut with Paper Rex taking on Optic Gaming, followed by the Fnatic/FPX game.

Team Imperial ordered to pay $74k over death of CSGO player

A labor judge in Brazil has ordered the esports group, Imperial, to pay damages to the family of Matheus ‘bruttJ’ Queiroz, a CS:GO player who passed away in 2019.

On December 15, 2019, bruttJ, who was 19 years old, passed away in a Rio de Janeiro hospital due to an unspecified infection of the central nervous system. He had left Imperial’s gambling house in Sao Paulo a week earlier, complaining of headaches, and had gone back to Rio de Janeiro to recuperate near his family.

After complaining of headaches a week earlier, he had left Imperial’s gambling house, which was located in Sao Paulo, and returned to Rio de Janeiro in order to heal close to his family there.

The Brazilian labor judge, Patricia Almeida Ramos, came to the conclusion that Imperial “indirectly contributed” to bruttJ’s passing since the company had failed to meet its legal and contractual obligations regarding bruttJ’s health.

When bruttJ’s health started to deteriorate, Ramos contended that Imperial failed to provide “any form of help” to him and did not provide a working atmosphere that was “healthy, safe, and comfortable.” During the short time that bruttJ spent in Imperial’s gaming house, he was taken to the hospital multiple times for treatment of a disease that the medical professionals were unable to identify.

The labor judge stated that from the moment bruttJ started working for Imperial and residing in their gaming house, the company’s responsibility for his health became “a legal and contractual obligation.” This was due to the fact that there was no separation between his professional activities and his personal life.

According to what Ramos stated in the decision, “the structure of the gaming house left a lot to be desired,” to the point where the athlete was unable to eat healthily or sleep correctly because of the conditions. Given the circumstances, it is clear that he was unable to physically recover. This was made obvious to everyone who came into contact with him by the three or four trips he made in a short period of time to public hospitals. Everyone with whom he came into contact saw this.

“None of this occurred with the company’s involvement, despite Imperial’s obligations under the law and the terms of the contract. The firm’s responsibility for the events that occurred and other related matters is beyond dispute.

The Reapers and the Imperial, the player’s previous clubs, are being sued by the family of the player known as bruttJ on the grounds that they should be held accountable for the welfare of the athletes they hire.

The court emphasized in its decision on Monday that it is impossible to say whether bruttJ would still be alive if Imperial had carried out its obligations. According to his comments, it is currently impossible to say anything else.

The court stated: “By deciding not to comply with the specific legislation nor with the provisions of the employment contract maintained with Mr. Matheus, Imperial assumed the danger of being held liable for any eventual injury sustained by the athlete, regardless of who caused it.”  “Imperial assumed the risk of being held liable for any potential injuries sustained by the athlete.

In a statement, Attorney José Augusto Rodrigues Jr., who defended Imperial in this case, stated in a statement that the organization will appeal the judgment. According to him, Imperial met all of its commitments and “offered aid to the family as well.”

The amount of the award is 400,000 Brazilian reais, which is equivalent to $74,000.

IEM Cologne 2022 Final is the Most-Watched Non-Major Tournament in CSGO History

IEM Cologne 2022 came to a conclusion yesterday as FaZe triumphed over NAVI to win the crown after an intense best-of-five grand finals that kept the fans on the edge of their seats.

Taking a glance at the stats from Esports Charts, we can see that the finals peaked at just under 1.25 million viewers, which marks the most-watched non-major tournament in the history of the competitive shooter.

The previous record was set at about 1.12 million concurrent viewers during the grand finals of IEM Katowice which was organized in February 2022. The finals saw FaZe clan taking down G2 3-0 in the BO5 series with three consecutive wins.

The finals of IEM Cologne 2022 was also the fifth most-watched CS:GO match of all time, lagging just behind ELEAGUE Major 2018 and ELEAGUE Major 2017 by only a few thousand viewers.

Currently, the throne for the most-watched CSGO major in the game’s history is occupied by the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 which recorded over 2.7 million concurrent viewers.

Yesterday’s showdown between FaZe and NAVI saw the former org take down their CIS counterparts 3-2 despite initially falling behind 1-2.

While it was indeed a deserving win for FaZe, the efforts of the electronic-led squad were more than commendable, to say the least.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a 5v5 competitive shooter that was developed and published by Valve in 2012. The title is currently available to play on PC for free and can be downloaded exclusively from Steam.

FaZe Takes Down NAVI to Win IEM Cologne 2022

After an action-packed night filled with some intense Counter-Strike action, FaZe Clan has been crowned as the winner of IEM Cologne 2022 as they best their CIS counterparts NAVI in the best-of-five grand finals of the event.

The match extended long into the night and ended up being an eight-hour showdown between the teams across five games. Both teams managed to put up astonishing performances throughout the finals, and every single game felt like they could go either way.

The grand finals started off with FaZe Clan’s map pick of Inferno. The North American org managed to take an early 5-0 lead on the T-side before NAVI stepped up their game and closed out the half 9-6. However, NAVI’s attacking fell short as FaZe put up a strong defense and managed to secure the game 16-12.

FaZe also managed to get the head start on the second map, Overpass, but s1mple’s stellar performance helped NAVI get back into the game. The game ended up being really close, but NAVI managed to come out on top with a score of 16-13.

The third map, Ancient, was perhaps the most intense game of the entire series. While NAVI ended the first half with a massive advantage of 12-3, FaZe wasn’t giving up so easily. After managing to mount a seemingly impossible comeback in the second half, FaZe tied the score 15-15. The match then went on to overtime, where NAVI eventually secured their second win 19-6.

While Mirage was a NAVI map pick, they visibly struggled to keep their composure as FaZe breezed through game four of the grand finals. The match ended up being 16-9 in the favour of FaZe clan, thanks to some amazing individual performances put up by its players.

With the grand finals being tied 2-2, Nuke was the decider map between the two teams that weren’t ready to give up so easily.  Game five ended up being a nail-biter as both teams went back and forth, trading rounds and leaving no room for mistakes till the scoreline tied at 14-14. A stellar play by Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken secured FaZe the following round, a lead that they ultimately extended to close the game 16-14.

The grand finals of IEM Cologne 2022 certainly kept fans of both teams on the edge of their seats at all times. While it was indeed a deserving win for FaZe, the efforts of the electronic-led squad were more than commendable, to say the least.

Paper Rex and Optic secure Upper Finals at Valorant Masters Copenhagen

The fixtures had the tournament favorites playing against each other.

Summary of VCT Masters Copenhagen Knockouts day 5:

  • Game 2: DRX 1-2 Optic Gaming

Game 1: Paper Rex 2-0 Fnatic:

The first upper semi-finals was APAC #1 taking on EMEA #1, a clash of playstyles with Paper Rex’s aggressive Yolo playstyle taking on Fnatic’s slow and strategic approach.

The first map chosen was Fnatic choosing to play Ascent with Breeze and Icebox banned. With Fnatic on defense, the game started with a back and forth of strings of the round, with Fnatic winning the last round to equalize the scoreline in the first half.

The second half started with Paper Rex winning the pistol while Fnatic answered with three rounds, and Paper Rex won the next four to reach the map point. The map came down to the last round with Paper Rex on 12 and Fnatic on 11, and a lost 1v1 for Fnatic lost their map pick.

Play of the Map: Mindfreak 1v4 Clutch retake.
Player of the map: Mindfreak KDA - 28/14/8 ACS - 318

Paper Rex’s bind started with Fnatic on the attack, winning five out of the starting eight rounds and seemed to have gained momentum, but Paper Rex quickly clapped back at Fnatic and won the last four rounds. The half ended with Paper Rex leading 7-5.

The second half seemed to be going in Paper Rex’s favor, but Fnatic found the answer to Paper Rex’s aggression, winning four rounds in a row to reach the score of 10-11. Paper Rex, though, with set plays, managed to take the sites for free and won the map 13-10 and the series 2-0.

Play of the Map: Forsaken A site 3-K
Player of the Map: Jinggg KDA - 25/19/5 ACS - 319
Player of the Series: Jinggg KDA - 46/38/9 ACS - 292

The win secured Paper Rex the Upper Finals spot, and they have outrun their Reykjavik run. Fnatic needs to make a lower bracket run to make it to the finals.

Game 2: DRX 1-2 Optic Gaming

The Masters Reykjavik Rematch had DRX and Optic Gaming taking on each other. The first map started with Optic playing Fracture and choosing to defend the site. DRX attacked with perfect set plays to win the first half 11-1

The second half had Optic Gaming struggling to hold on, but DRX closed the map 13-4.

Play of the Map: Zest & BuZz 2v5 Clutch.
Player of the Map: Zest K/D/A - 19/6/4 ACS - 280

Before the second map, almost everyone counted Optic out of the game, but Optic on Breeze completely “Split” open DRX’s defense, winning the first half 10-2.

The second half had DRX resisting, but the map closed 13-4 in Optic’s favor.

Play of the Map: Stax A Main aggressive 3K
Player of the Map: yay K/D/A - 22/8/3 ACS - 219

The last map was a bit more competitive than the first two maps, with Optic winning the first two rounds and DRX quickly answering back with three rounds. Optic Gaming, despite the resistance, collected six out of the next seven rounds to close the half 8-4 to start the final map with a lead.

The second half started with Optic extending their lead to ten, winning the pistol round and the follow-up.

DRX managed to return the favor by stringing together multiple rounds. A clutch from Yay stopped this stomp from DRX to win Optic the eleventh round, and a thrifty got them the map point, and off of that, they won the final map 13-11.

Play of the Map: Yay Thrifty Clutch
Player of the Map: Yay KDA - 24/19/4 ACS - 163
Player of the Series: Yay KDA - 62/41/9 ACS - 304

With this Victory, Optic Gaming secured Upper Finals again, and they would play Paper Rex at the Upper Finals. DRX would play FPX in the Lower round 2 tomorrow, along with Fnatic taking on Leviatan for tournament contention.
