HBO’s Last Of Us TV series to be directed by Chernobyl director Johan Renck

New details about HBO’s upcoming TV series Last Of Us surfaced online after an interview of Discussing Films with director Johan Renck went live. In the interview, Renck revealed that he is an executive producer of the series and will direct the pilot episode.

The writer and creative director of the game, Neil Druckmann, will work with Mazin to pen and executive produce the series.

While answering the questions about his next endeavor, Renck said:

“I’m an executive producer on it and attached to it. It’s an ongoing TV series. So that’s not something that I will be able to take on to that extent, but I’m part of that series and I will be directing at least the pilot.”

Last Of Us is one of the best Sony Playstation exclusive games which is story rich and also has a very large fan following. Following the success of game series turned TV series like Netflix’s Witcher, Sony in March 2020 announced its upcoming HBO production of the award-winning The Last of Us game.

Following the announcement, The Hollywood Reporter in early March revealed that the HBO series will “cover the events of the original game… with the possibility of additional content based on the forthcoming sequel The Last of Us 2.

With this interview one fact is also clear that The Last of Us HBO series is described as an “ongoing” TV series, perhaps suggesting that it won’t be a one-season series or a miniseries like Chernobyl and may in fact involve multiple seasons. Generally, the Pilot episode is shot months before the full-scale production of the series. So we expect more details to surface as soon as full production starts.
