Dead by Daylight is turning ten, and Behaviour Interactive is commemorating the milestone with the announcement of one of the community’s most highly requested features.
During the DBD 10th anniversary livestream on June 14, 2026, the studio dropped one of its most exciting announcements in years. Official sandbox modding support is coming to the beloved asymmetric horror title.
The devs have confirmed that they’re working on a dedicated suite of tools that will let players build their own custom maps and entirely new game modes. The modding toolkit is designed to give creators significant freedom, opening the door to an endless amount of community-made content.
As confirmed by the devs, Sandbox modding is coming to DBD at some point in 2027, giving the team ample time to polish the toolset before handing it off to the community.
For a game that has always thrived on an incredibly passionate player base, this move might just be the thing that the community needs to breathe fresh life into the decade-old title.
The sandbox announcement wasn’t the only headline from the stream. Behaviour also revealed a new Zombie Mode coming to the title, where survivors must administer vaccines to infected players while avoiding the spread themselves. There’s also a 1v1 mode coming to the game, drawing inspiration from Dead by Daylight‘s competitive community.
Lastly, a full visual overhaul for DBD is also in the works, targeting character models, animations, and maps. A new dynamic weather system will add new layers to the game’s visuals by implementing rain, lightning, and more.
Note that the exact date for this major Dead by Daylight update remains unconfirmed at the time of writing. All we know is that it’s coming in 2027. Fans should keep an eye out on Dead by Daylight’s official social media channels to stay in the loop.
