BGMI Lite cross-play has now been officially confirmed by KRAFTON India, answering one of the biggest questions surrounding the upcoming lighter version of Battlegrounds Mobile India. According to the latest official announcement, BGMI and BGMI Lite players will be able to play together, meaning users will not have to leave their existing friends or squads behind after moving to the lighter version.
The confirmation comes as BGMI Lite pre-registrations are now live for Android users in India through Google Play. KRAFTON India is positioning the upcoming game around the promise “Nothing Less, Just Lighter,” with the aim of providing the core Battlegrounds experience in a smaller package.
BGMI Lite and BGMI Cross-Play Officially Confirmed
One of the most important details from KRAFTON India’s latest announcement is cross-play support between BGMI and BGMI Lite.
This means a player using the lighter version will be able to squad up with friends who are playing the regular BGMI version. Players will not necessarily need everyone in their squad to download the same version just to continue playing together.
This could be particularly useful for groups where some players have devices with limited storage or resources while others prefer the complete BGMI application.

BGMI Account, Items and Progress Will Carry Over
Cross-play isn’t the only connection between the two versions.
KRAFTON India has now clarified that existing players will not need to transfer their ID or account. Instead, users can simply log in using their existing BGMI account.
According to the announcement, their items and existing progress will come along when they use the lighter version.
This makes the new version less like a completely separate game ecosystem and more like another way of accessing the Battlegrounds experience.
What is Different About BGMI Lite?
The biggest difference will be its size and accessibility. KRAFTON says the game will have an initial download of around 1GB, without requiring large mandatory downloads to get started.
Despite the smaller package, the company says it will retain the same core Battlegrounds experience.
The combination of a smaller initial download, shared account progress and BGMI Lite cross-play could make the game particularly useful for players who previously struggled with storage limitations but still want to play with their existing BGMI friends.
BGMI Lite Pre-Registration and Release
Pre-registration is currently available to Android users in India through Google Play. KRAFTON has also revealed that players who register will have a chance to receive exclusive pre-registration rewards, with details about those rewards coming later.
The company says BGMI Lite is scheduled to launch later in 2026, although an exact release date has not yet been announced.
