Assassin’s Creed Mirage Finally Hits Steam: Release Date and Details

0

Later this October, Ubisoft announced that the game Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be launched on Steam.

The Steam release of Mirage comes a year after its initial announcement date, as a PC-exclusive title available on the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect, as well as PlayStation and Xbox with regards to console releases – later down the road.

In the past few months, Ubisoft has pulled the same tactic of locking titles exclusively for release on Epic Games for PC launches, a move that will be reversed now when the company releases their titles on Steam at the same time in this upcoming launch calendar.

This shift comes following the disappointing outing of Star Wars Outlaws whose absence and abysmal failure were not felt on Steam. Outlaws is planned to be released on Steam on November 21st,  2024.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Steam

Mirage retains an elegant design that can be traced all the way back to the original Assassin’s Creed games, with its main focus on stealth. Characters take the roles of Basim, a cunning youngster living in the jolly district of ninth-century Baghdad. Unlike its latest counterparts, Valhalla and Odyssey fans will find that Mirage is considerably shorter in terms of thorough exploration. IGN gave the game, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, 8/10.

Soon after, Ubisoft made a comment that Mirage had the ‘same level’ of players engaged at the same duration of its launch as Origins and Odyssey. In addition, the company said that Mirage was the biggest launch title for the new generation in terms of units for Ubisoft.

The Steam arrival of Mirage takes place in a difficult year for the studio – unsatisfactory results can be observed in Call of Duty’s competitor XDefiant and the aforementioned Star Wars Outlaws. After these low performances, Ubisoft delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows to 2025, and workers are going to stage a protest next week.

In the latest update to shareholders, Ubisoft chief exec Yves Guillemot said that the company had “underperformed in the second quarter versus our expectations” and committed to the launch of a “review aimed at improving the firm’s performance.” He also briefly talks about cultural issues that have come up at Ubisoft recently especially in response to Star Wars Outlaws and also around the soon-to-be-released Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The previous week there were rumors that the Gillemet brothers and shareholders Tencent were seriously planning an acquisition of Ubisoft in order to shore up the present falling stock prices, but hopefully, we all hope it ends well for Ubisoft, you loveable giant.

Disney’s Big Bet on Fortnite: What Does It Mean for Players? Epic games’ whopping $1.5 Bn investment explained

Fortnite is still one of the world’s biggest gaming franchises – and Disney’s investment in Epic Games is exciting. Fortunately, we’ve got ourselves interested in finding out whether and if yes, how this decision could affect the future of us players in Fortnite.

Fortnite has firmly established itself in the OD landscape as the go-to game for cross-overs in all and sundry from movies, to TV shows, anime, athletic personalities and so much more – and this status never looked to change.

But, did Disney really buy Fortnite?

Short answer? No. Long answer? Here we go, opening the floodgates to a host of newcomers to Fortnite and explaining what this means:

Indeed, it cannot be said that Disney has bought Fortnite. However, the House of Mouse sunk an enormous $1.5 billion into Fortnite’s creator, Epic Games, to create a Disney-oriented ‘persistent universe’ as built by Epic Games.

Disney’s share gives the company a large share of the Epic Games wealth and indeed suggests that every success song to Disney’s tune. Even though most of the discussions revolved around Fortnite, this partnership implies that subsequent games will be co-created and are expected to include Unreal Engine.

However, the financial backing was not only to drive turnovers or meet revenue targets. Disney is planning to create an entirely new world of gaming which is not going to require a trip on a magic carpet to get to.

The “persistent universe” will effectively be a new mode of play built into Fortnite—similar to LEGO Fortnite, which is a wholly different game. The Disney experience or game will run in a similar fashion if at all it will be available as a standalone application.

Okay, so what is Disney’s role in the Fortnite universe?

Fortnite disney

Details have not been revealed in their entirety yet but according to The Verge, Disney wants to stress that “important decisions have been already made”, for example, it does not plan to have every character wielding a gun like the Battle Royale counterparts. I find that some types of options may be different depending on certain circumstances.

Both the Avengers and the Incredibles have made their cameo in Fortnite, the latter of which can use weapons while Disney villains will arrive in October 2024. They are added to Disney brands present in Fortnite, which do not impose limitations on weapons, including many Avengers and Star Wars ‘characters’.

Every update to Fortnite so far has fit seamlessly into Battle Royale; that may change when Disney mode arrives, so don’t expect Mickey Mouse wielding SMGs when you transition to Zero Build.

However, many skins, characters, and properties will be independent of the present Fortnite domains; there will be a lot of options for the game – cars, Wall-E, and Finding Nemo are equally important brands of Disney but at the same time, they do not fit within the context of Fortnite.

But, will Fortnite change because of Disney?

Nope, nothing will change in Fortnite itself; apart from the growth of cooperation with Disney, which includes Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar. Moreover, with Disney buying Fox in 2019, people could possibly see characters from cartoons The Simpsons, Avatar, and Garfield.

Perhaps what may change, however, are other collaborations and partnerships between Fortnite and other segments of media with which Disney might prefer not to work with competitors, a candidate for which would be DC which has been depicted in Fortnite, not to mention Marvel’s association but has been MIA from the item shop for almost a year by the time of writing of this article. So hopefully, we’ll meet you all at titled towers in your animated Disney Suits!

Match of LeGGends: Highlights of the show match between NAVI and Team Vitality

0

On 5 October, the highly anticipated show match between NAVI and Team Vitality took place, organized by the betting brand GG.BET. Match of LeGGends: Double Down drew in more than 300,000 views on the official broadcast channels, becoming one of the most spectacular esports events of 2024.

The show match featured unique game modes not typically seen in tournaments, making it truly unforgettable.

The first legendary map, Tuscan, was played in an MR12 format. Team Vitality dominated the first half, but NAVI, in typical style, managed to make a comeback and secure victory with a 13:11 score.

In the second stage, the players faced off in Arms Race on the maps Shoots, Pool Day, and Baggage, where each kill leveled up the player and granted them a new weapon. The final item was a golden knife, with a frag scored using it guaranteeing victory for the team. The atmosphere was electric, with dynamic gameplay and breathtaking moments electrifying the audience.

The crowd especially enjoyed the duels between the tournament’s S-Tier MVPs Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut and Justinas “jL” Lekavičius. Their battle was the highlight of the match, as jL snatched a win on the first map, Shoots, but ZywOo came out on top on the next two, Pool Day and Baggage, securing victory for Team Vitality.

The show match concluded with Hostage Rescue on the Italy map, where the Counter-Terrorists attempted to rescue the hostages, while the Terrorists tried to stop them. The teams fought so fiercely that they played three rounds of overtime, with Team Vitality finally winning 22:20. The organizer, GG.BET, has put together the most exciting highlights of the NAVI vs. Vitality show match – Match of LeGGends: Double Down!

Eternal Fire Eliminates G2 From IEM Rio 2024

Eternal Fire has progressed to the next round of IEM Rio 2024 after beating G2 in a highly dominant fashion, pulling off the biggest upset of the tournament so far.

Veto

  • Eternal Fire removed Ancient
  • G2 removed Vertigo
  • Eternal Fire picked Anubis
  • G2 picked Mirage
  • Eternal Fire removed Nuke
  • G2 removed Inferno
  • Dust2 was left over

Map 1: Anubis; Pick: Eternal Fire; Winner: Eternal Fire

A disastrous start to the first half for G2, winning 3 rounds on the T side which puts them in the worst position to make a comeback. woxic’s AWP found impact every round it got a chance, which put them in an amazing position to dominate G2, a team that showcased their prowess on Anubis against NAVI.

The second half saw XANTARES opening G2 up for fun as a near-perfect CT side for EF started with a force buy conversion following a pistol round loss. Eternal Fire won their own map pick with a heavily one-sided scoreline of 13-4. woxic led the way with 21 frags to his name, besting some of the biggest names in CS at the moment.

Map 2: Mirage; Pick: G2; Winner: Eternal Fire

A blistering start for Eternal Fire on G2’s map pick saw them win 5 rounds straight before G2 could get a round on the board. As frustration set in, G2 managed to squeeze in a few rounds before they moved to the second half.

With 4 rounds to their name, G2 won the pistol and converted the following which led to some hopes of a comeback that Eternal Fire soon shut down winning a few rounds of their own soon afterward to close out the map. XATARES and woxic’s impressive performance become too much for G2 to handle.

G2’s individual-based approach fell flat against an Eternal Fire with a hot hand. As EF progresses, G2 will head for the airport as RMR approaches, and failing to win them will lead to the organization missing out on the major.

Ubisoft Considers Tencent Buyout Amid Financial Struggles and Investor Pressure

0

Ubisoft, the renowned French video game publisher behind iconic franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, is reportedly considering a buyout by Chinese tech giant Tencent. This potential acquisition has sent ripples through the gaming industry, sparking discussions about the future of Ubisoft and its beloved game series.

The Buyout Rumors

Reports suggest that Tencent, which already holds a significant stake in Ubisoft, is in talks with the Guillemot family, the founders of Ubisoft, to take the company private. This move comes as Ubisoft faces increasing pressure from investors and struggles with underwhelming financial performance. The company’s shares surged by over 30% following the news, reflecting the market’s reaction to the potential buyout.

Strategic Options and Market Reactions

Ubisoft has acknowledged the speculation, stating that it regularly reviews its strategic options to ensure the best outcomes for its stakeholders. However, the company has not confirmed any specific discussions with Tencent. The gaming giant has been navigating a challenging period, with delays in major game releases and a decline in market value.

Financial Struggles and Investor Pressure

The past year has been particularly tough for Ubisoft. The company postponed the release of its highly anticipated game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, by three months due to lower-than-expected demand for its Star Wars Outlaws game. Additionally, Ubisoft revised its net bookings guidance for the fiscal year, projecting lower revenues compared to previous years2. These financial setbacks have fueled investor dissatisfaction, leading to increased pressure on the company’s management.

Tencent’s Growing Influence

Tencent, one of the world’s largest technology firms, has been expanding its presence in the global gaming market. The company is known for its popular games like Honor of Kings and its investments in various gaming companies worldwide. Acquiring Ubisoft would significantly bolster Tencent’s portfolio and influence in the gaming industry.

The Future of Ubisoft

The potential buyout raises questions about the future direction of Ubisoft. While some industry experts believe that Tencent’s involvement could provide the necessary resources and stability for Ubisoft to regain its footing, others are concerned about the implications for the company’s creative independence and the future of its game franchises.

As the gaming world watches closely, the outcome of these discussions could reshape the landscape of the industry. Ubisoft’s journey, marked by iconic games and recent challenges, continues to captivate both gamers and investors alike. The potential buyout by Tencent represents a pivotal moment for the company, with far-reaching implications for its future and the broader gaming community.

CS2 Players’ Ingenious XP Farming Tactics Despite Valve’s Crackdown

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) players have found a unique way to farm XP for The Armory, even though Valve has cracked down on these shenanigans. The Armory recently received over 100 weapon skins and charms in an update, prompting all kinds of XP farming shenanigans, most notably on the Dust 2 map.

At first, Molotov cocktails and grenades in a single location was the most efficient way for players to farm XP. By using this method they gather up to 40 stars for the pass, which you can stack up to five times (for a total of 200 upon completion). But Valve immediately took action, tweaking the XP score counting of Casual, Competitive and Wingman modes to disregard any sort of knife or utility damage — hence temporarily shutting the door from the old-fashioned XP farming means.

True to form, the CS2 community regrouped and with due haste traded their primary weapons for pistols as they ventured forth into new fields of XP farming. XP farming continued to take place with the same basic idea in the same location, but players managed to move a little bit slower as they were technically making their way through speedruns. That resolve showcases the determination within the community to capitalize on their potential Armory pass rewards.

Attempts by Valve to clamp down on XP farming in-game have led to some controversy in the community. There are those who say that these tactics will damage the competitive integrity of the game, while on the other hand others consider it to be a useful trick to quickly access unlocked content. It also serves as a reminder of the ever evolving game of cat-and-mouse between Valve and the players surrounding their unending hunt to abuse in-game advantages.

With Valve continuing to plug holes in these farming methods, the response from the community is anyone’s guess. But for now XP farming on Dust 2 with pistols is the fashion, ensuring that the CS2 community remains relevant and as inventive as ever when it comes to progression.
