ED Arrests WinZO Founders in ₹505 Crore Money Laundering Case

0

The Enforcement Directorate arrested WinZO cofounders Saumya Singh Rathore and Paavan Nanda on November 27 in Bengaluru, marking one of the biggest takedowns in India’s real money gaming crackdown. A special PMLA court handed them 10-day custody after the agency presented evidence of alleged large-scale financial fraud and money laundering.

WinZO Founders’ ₹505 Crore Assets Frozen

The ED had already frozen assets worth ₹505 crore belonging to WinZO before making the arrests. WinZO stored these funds in bank accounts, corporate bonds, mutual funds, and fixed deposits. The agency claims this represents proceeds of crime generated through illegal operations that continued even after the government banned real money gaming on August 22, 2025.

What makes the allegations worse is that WinZO allegedly held ₹43 crore belonging to users without refunding them after the ban kicked in. The platform kept running real money games in Brazil, USA, and Germany from India-based servers while blocking Indian users from withdrawing their money.

Algorithms, Shell Companies, and KYC Fraud

ED investigations revealed WinZO used automated algorithms and bots disguised as real players to manipulate game outcomes. The system tricked users into thinking they were competing against humans from the start. Complaints poured in about blocked withdrawals, impersonation, and misuse of PAN and KYC data.

The money trail gets murkier overseas. ED found that WinZO diverted $55 million (~₹490 crore) to bank accounts in the USA held under WinZO US Inc.. The agency calls these account shell companies. All operations and bank account activities for this US entity were being controlled directly from India.

This arrest comes days after ED raided WinZO and GamesKraft offices across Bengaluru, Delhi, and Gurugram. The gaming sector is already reeling. Flutter Entertainment’s Junglee Games laid off 350 employees this week. Moreover, multiple startups have shut down operations entirely following the real money gaming ban.

The investigation continues as ED examines WinZO’s global financial trails and overseas connections.

FaZe Qualifies for StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 Stage 2

FaZe Clan is through to Stage 2 of the StarLadder Budapest playoffs after yet another sketchy display in taking down Fluxo with a 2-1 scoreline. FaZe, having won the previous match, had another close encounter that saw them secure another close win and a spot in Stage 2 of the Major.

VETO

  • FaZe removed Train
  • Fluxo removed Dust2
  • FaZe picked Inferno
  • Fluxo picked Nuke
  • Fluxo removed Ancient
  • FaZe removed Overpass
  • Mirage was left over

Map 1: Inferno; Pick: FaZe; Winner: FaZe

Winning 8 rounds in the first half, FaZe looked dominant as they were expected to be. Confident and precise on their offense, they put the Brazilian side on the back foot, from which they could not recover. After winning 2 rounds to start their offense, Fluxo failed to keep the momentum up in the gun rounds, and FaZe closed the map effortlessly with a streak of 5 rounds. Having won their own map pick, FaZe found themselves a map away from qualification.

Map 2: Nuke; Pick: Fluxo; Winner: Fluxo

A 4-0 start for Fluxo put FaZe on the back foot right from the get-go. FaZe failed to recover from that point onwards, leading to Fluxo edging out a narrow lead of 7-5 in the first half. Starting the second half with a pistol win, FaZe levelled the scoreline, but all the gun rounds went the way of Fluxo. Winning 6 rounds in a row, the Fluxo defense forced FaZe into the final map of the series and kept their hopes alive.

Map 3: Mirage; Pick: Decider; Winner: FaZe

FaZe carried their poor form from the 2nd map onto the 3rd, leading to Fluxo running all over them in the first half. 8-4 in favour of the Brazilians, they went on to hit double digits before FaZe started mounting their comeback in typical FaZe fashion. With elimination staring them in the face, FaZe Clan started winning rounds. Brick by brick, the comeback was built, and by the time Fluxo could stop the bleeding, they found FaZe cruising past them to win the map 13-10 from being 10-4 down at a point.

The FaZe story so far seems to be something unbelievable, as if they are being protected by plot armor. Given their poor performance for most of the event, Stage 2 will not be this forgiving, and unless they drastically improve, we are unlikely to see FaZe advance beyond Stage 2.

Skyesports Announces 2026 Pokémon UNITE Asia Champions League

ESEA League Format Reworked Once Again

The Counter-Strike 2 ESEA League is undergoing another format overhaul to reestablish itself as a direct path to the ESL Challenger League.

As per an official announcement from FACEIT, the ESEA League is being reworked to meet VRS-ranked requirements, creating a renewed online pathway toward the ESL Pro League and restoring its role as a stepping-stone from amateur to pro competition.

This new format, debuting in Season 56, will require teams to register at the start of every season. The teams will be seeded based on their VRS ranking, while those without one will be placed according to their performance in the previous season.

Moving forward, Open10 (EU), Open9-10 (NA), Entry (EU), Intermediate, Main, and Advanced will also operate as a VRS-ranked competition, while Open1-8 (EU/NA) and Open9 (EU) will remain unranked.

The top four teams from Open10 (EU), Open9-10 (NA), Entry (EU), Intermediate, Main, and Advanced will move forward to a Finals Bracket. Lower groups will have to go through additional matches based on the difficulty of their groups. The top two teams in both EU/NA will receive wildcard invites to an ESL Challenger League cup.

Teams with any amount of VRS Points will be seeded into Advanced to prevent unbalanced competition and align with VRS seeding rules. Placements for Season 56 will use the VRS Rankings from December 2025. The teams must field at least three players from their VRS-ranked lineup in every League match during the season.

Registrations for the upcoming season are set to kick off from December 3rd, giving teams just over a month to apply for the event before it comes to a close on January 7th, 2026.

The regular season is set to run from January 12 to March 1, 2026, followed by playoffs from March 3 to March 22. The Grand Finals will take place from March 23 to March 29, 2026.
Fans can check out the detailed format changes by heading over to the FACEIT website.
