Esports Tower in Tokyo by Konami is coming

Konami, the developer behind franchises like Metal Gear Solid series, is constructing a tower in Tokyo. The Centre will serve as a multi-functional gaming arena.

The 12-story developing is going in Tokyo’s upscale Ginza shopping region. The Esports Tower will be known as the Konami Creative Center and will house a best in class esports field, regions for esports training and guidance, and a retail location devoted to selling esports peripherals and different items.

The Tower is set to be ready by Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020 as predicted by Kyodo.

“The people who participate in esports will in the future stand side by side with those participating in real-life sports like soccer, or even surpass them,” Konami president Kimihiko Higashio said during the center’s brick-laying ceremony.

Konami is still producing the Pro Evolution Soccer series after all, and in any event, anyone with sufficiently deep pockets is free to get into esports promoting.

Konami is pushing its narrative to put itself up on the esports map. It is contributing towards raising the Japan’s profile in international esports competition. Which would also validate the existence of esports as a mega industry in the country.
