Peter “ptr” Gurney on Twitter has announced his retirement from CSGO and will exit from Bad News Bears, whom he first started playing for in 2019.

Just weeks after the conclusion of IEM Cologne 2021, ptr has decided to hang up his mouse and leave behind a seven-year illustrious career in CSGO. Moving forward the North American will majorly focus on pursuing Poker, full time.

Before joining Bad News Bears (BnB), ptr represented a plethora of top-tier teams including compLexity, NRG Esports, and Counter Logic Gaming. During his time with the latter, the 31-year-old North American made it to his first-ever CSGO Major at the ESL One: Katowice in 2015 where CLG were unable to get past their group but that helped ptr rise to prominence as a primary AWPer for every team he has played till now. A brief tenure with NRG saw Peter compete at the ESL Pro League Season 3 in North America and the finals of Season 4 until he signed up for Test Takers, later known as the Bad News Bears, an orgless team fended off by several players.

At BnB, ptr served as the team’s sniper alongside the newly joined in-game leader Alan “Shakezullah” Hardeman and went on to steer the team to IEM Cologne 2021’s play-in. Although they lost to Mousesports and LDLC, under Peter, Bad News Bears have proven to the community a significant updraft in the team’s synergy and overall impact on the scene.

With ptr’s departure, they are now:

  • Jonathan “Jonji” Carey
  • Michael “Swisher” Schmid
  • Gabe “Spongey” Greiner
  • Alan “Shakezullah” Hardeman
  • Nathan “madcow” Retterath (Head Coach)
