CS2 February 6 Update Adjusts Rank Disparity Issues in Premier Mode: Full Patch Notes

Valve has shipped a new update to Counter-Strike 2, and it aims to address an issue that many players have been facing since the release of Premier Season 2.

Recently, social media forums have seen a number of CS2 players expressing their frustration on being unable to queue with their friends in matchmaking. According to some players, friends who they had queued with during Season 1 were no longer eligible to join their party in Season 2 due to newly implemented rank restrictions.

The February 6 CS2 update seems to address this problem.

CS2 February 6 Update Patch Notes

While the new CS2 update isn’t a massive overhaul, it brings some much-needed fixes to the competitive shooter.

The biggest and most important change in the latest patch is undoubtedly the change to the Premier matchmaking in CS2. The update addresses this issue by refining the matchmaking algorithm that determines the acceptable CS Rating differences between party members, ensuring that only those with significant disparities are prevented from queuing together.

“In most cases, players who used to play together as a party in Premier Season One will be able to party together in Premier Season Two,” the patch notes state.

There are also a few other minor changes and bug fixes included in this new update.

Here are the detailed patch notes of the February 6 CS2 update, as confirmed by Valve:

[ PREMIER ]

  • Adjusted the logic that determines when players are too far apart in CS Rating to participate in matchmaking together as a party. In most cases, players who used to play together as a party in Premier Season One will be able to party together in Premier Season Two.

[ UI ]

  • Added “Get Service Medal” UI element directly to the main menu profile card.
  • Fixed a case where main menu profiles were missing display medals.
  • Updated Dust II radar image to be more accurate.

[ MISC ]

  • Fixed a case where inspect or reload button presses could cause prediction errors.

GamerLegion Challenges Valve Ranking System Over Prize Money Discrepancy

0

GamerLegion has formally contacted Valve regarding a discrepancy in the February Valve ranking update, according to a HLTV report. The issue revolves around how prize money is calculated, specifically concerning the minimum guaranteed prize pool for teams still competing in a tournament.

The problem, as GamerLegion sees it, is that teams knocked out early received ranking points based on their winnings, while teams still in the tournament—and thus yet to receive their full prize—missed out on potential VRS points at the ranking cutoff date.

This timing proved crucial for GamerLegion. On February 3rd, the cutoff for BLAST Open Lisbon, PGL Bucharest, YaLLa Compass Qatar, IEM Melbourne, and IEM Dallas invites, they were ranked 13th. They narrowly missed the top 12, the threshold for BLAST Open Lisbon and PGL Bucharest invites, by a mere 0.4 points, assuming no invited teams decline.

Following their elimination from IEM Katowice on February 4th, and after securing their $38,000 prize, along with the ranking adjustments from their win against Astralis and losses to Spirit and The MongolZ, GamerLegion climbed to 11th in HLTV’s live calculation of Valve’s formula. This placed them 43 points ahead of FURIA, who held 12th place and whose $10,000 winnings from Katowice were already factored into the February 3rd rankings.

GamerLegion argues that this discrepancy significantly affected their ranking and eligibility for recent invites. They believe they rightfully deserve a spot in the top 12 of the global VRS.

What is Valve Regional Standings in CS2?

0

Figuring out which CS2 teams make it to the Majors can seem complicated, but it all boils down to the Valve Regional Standings (VRS). Forget past Major results or RMR qualifiers – these rankings, introduced in 2025, are the golden ticket. New to the pro-CS2 scene, or just returning after a break?

Here’s a clear breakdown of how the VRS works.

What is VRS in CS2?

Essentially, the VRS is a system of four rankings: one global and three regional. The regional rankings cover the major CS2 areas: Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. Teams earn their spots on these lists based on their performance in ranked tournaments and matches.

Several factors play a role in how a match impacts a team’s standing. These include whether they won or lost, how strong their opponent was, the importance of the event, and how recently the match was played. These rankings get a refresh every week, usually on Mondays.

How is the VRS used?

So, what are these standings used for? They’re the key to tournament invites, both for the main events and the qualifiers. Big-name tournaments often use the global standings to decide who gets an invite, while regional standings are used for invites to regional closed qualifiers.

Most importantly, the VRS is the deciding factor for Major invitations. The regional rankings, combined with the previous Major’s regional results, determine how many teams from each region get invited and where they start in the tournament.

Want to check out the VRS for yourself? They’re on this GitHub page run by Valve. You can find them by navigating through the “invitation” or “live” folder, selecting the current year, and then picking the most recent regional standings page.

EA CEO Hints at Apex Legends 2.0 Update

0

EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently dropped a hint about a massive update in the works, something so significant he’s calling it “Apex 2.0.” This comes as Apex Legends celebrates its sixth anniversary, a milestone marked by numerous seasons, map changes, a growing roster of Legends, and even a mobile version that came and went. But this next update sounds like it’ll be on a whole different level.

Wilson, speaking during EA’s latest earnings call, confirmed that Respawn Entertainment is not just supporting the current game, but actively developing this “major update.” He even suggested it’s so transformative, “Apex 2.0” is a fitting description.

Now, what exactly “Apex 2.0” entails is still a mystery. Could it be a collection of new maps and game modes? Maybe even more Legends are joining the fray? Or perhaps it’s a deep dive into gameplay mechanics, refining and polishing what’s already there? The possibilities are exciting, and frankly, anyone’s guess.

However, don’t expect this game-changer anytime soon. Wilson made it clear that “Apex 2.0” is slated for release after the next Battlefield game launches. EA’s current plans point to that Battlefield title arriving sometime within their Fiscal Year 2026, which runs until April 1, 2026. Of course, game development being what it is, delays are always possible.

So, while “Apex 2.0” might be over a year away, at least, we can take comfort in knowing that Respawn is working on something big for the future of Apex Legends.

After nearly five years since the game’s initial release, the highly anticipated Valorant replay system might finally be on the horizon, as per some recent leaks.

According to an X (formerly Twitter) post by prominent Valorant dataminer ‘VALORANTLeaksEN’, Riot Games has added a bunch of replay system icons to the competitive shooter with the Valorant 10.02 patch.

Previously, Riot stated in their January 2025 dev update that the replay system was still a bit further down the road. However, the appearance of replay system icons in the game’s latest patch suggests that its development may be progressing faster than expected.

New Valorant Update Adds Replay System Icons

Dataminers have confirmed that the following replay system icons have been added to Valorant with its 10.02 update on February 4, 2025.

  • Follow Cam
  • Playhead Indicator
  • Free Cam
  • Previous Round
  • Hide Replays
  • Replay Settings
  • Pause
  • Skip Back
  • Next Round
  • Skip Forward

Note that the replay system in Valorant, along with the icons mentioned above, is not functional yet. In fact, as of the time of writing, the devs have not announced a release date for the Valorant replay system.

Everything mentioned in this article is based on leaks, so take it with a grain of salt. Be sure to follow Riot Games’ official social media channels for further updates on the Valorant replay system.
