CS:GO Devs Patch Radar Spotting Enemies Through Smoke Mechanic

1

Earlier today, CS:GO recieved a 10 MB update which fixed a common smoke bug in the game right before IEM Katowice 2019 began.

[MISC]
– Fixed the ‘radar spotting enemies through smoke’ mechanic to behave the same regardless of the game server tickrate, and to not reveal enemies on the opposite side of the smoke until the smoke effect dissipates.
– Increased size of rendering queues for OSX and Linux game clients to address crashes when playing Danger Zone.

This update comes after many pro players such as Niko and TACO have voiced their concerns about the bug being exploiting to gain sneaky kills through the smoke by certain players. The player most infamous for abusing this bug is Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander who is the IGL of Astralis. Gla1ve has been found guilty of using a bind which zooms in the radar and allows him to gets kills through smokes easier.

The mechanism of the smoke is split into two cycles; The first cycle of thick smoke which is 15 seconds, and the second cycle of fading smoke which is around 2 seconds and the radar only blocks players being spotted on the first cycle, allowing players to kill them before the smoke fades

With the new update, the radar no longer shows the enemy on the radar while the smoke is fading and will only reveal their position after the whole smoke fades. Twitter user Don Haci explains this better in his tweet:

A clip of Gla1ve using the smoke radar bug can be found here:

Ninjas in Pyjamas: Another shot at longlost glory?

If Counter Strike Global Offensive is life for many in this world, the Ninjas could be equated as their first love, at least for most of us. Even the haters remember the 87-0 run from NiP that is yet to be broken. At a time when the game was still developing and far from what it is now, the Ninjas dominated everyone that dared step foot on the same server.

Oh, how the times have changed! From being an almost certain fixture in the knockout phases, Ninjas in Pyjamas are not even in the actual legacy Major to say, right now. Their struggles have become all the more apparent with the concurrent roster changes in an attempt to find a stable footing.

One could say the Ninjas have become so desperate, they pounced on the opportunity of bringing in former Fnatic stars Dennis ‘dennis’ Edman and Jonas ‘Lekr0’ Olofsson to revitalise their roster. Patrick ‘f0rest’ Lindberg is still very much the champion he is while Fredrik ‘REZ’ Sterner is genuinely a talent worth following from a fan perspective.

But, the one person every CSGO fan is rooting for is Christopher ‘GeT_RighT’ Alesund. Mr. Alesund has struggled with his IBS during the entirety of his Counter-Strike career. But, seldom has his performance levels been as low as it has been in the past few months.

The European Minor was a stark and much-needed reminder that GeT_RighT is still a superstar on the server. Seeded fourth in the player-driven rankings, the Swedes are below local rivals Fnatic, NRG and Cloud 9, all of which seems justified, except maybe Cloud 9, owing mostly to the roster changes that have been made by the North American organization.

Still, NiP are one of the favourites to qualify for the New Legends Stage, or as we can say, the start of the legacy Major format. They came very close to returning to the knockout phases at the FACEIT Major in London, only to fall at the final hurdle.

And while they will be driven to do the deed, as they say, this time, the Ninjas will have to be wary of their own selves, if not the ‘new teams’ that have made it to the New Challengers Stage.

They are just positive in terms of overall results with their current lineup and while there have been some good highs, the lows have been difficult to deal with for their fans. That f0rest is the only player with a positive overall rating in due course of the lineup being in existence is a testament to the lineup’s individual troubles.

There are positives though. GeT_RighT is still one of the most proficient pro players in terms of net effect from utility usage. As we mentioned above, f0rest remains a player with the firepower and ability to match the top players in the CSGO scene.

Lekro has taken over the reins as the IGL and it should free up dennis a bit, who looked overwhelmed to an extent in the role at NiP.

The Danish scene has overpowered the once-dominant Swedes. But, they have not been swept under the rug. The Swedes have regrouped and while Ninjas have not taken as drastic a step as Fnatic did in revamping their lineup, this one still harbours hope of a renaissance.

Katowice is an iconic venue and it is already going to be missing one staple powerhouse in Virtus Pro. With no Polish teams to support, there is a high probability the crowd will be cheering the resident stalwarts of the scene.

Can the Ninjas stir up a run reminiscent of their old glory days? Can the Polish fans witness the legendary organization rise from the ashes?

The ingredients are there. The recipe for success has always been known. The spice (pita and the unstructured gameplay) has returned. Will NiP?

PUBG wins Steam Game of the Year 2018

1

PUBG has been announced as the Steam Game of the year 2018 in the Steam Awards which includes categories for best VR Game and best Developer among others.

The award, as voted by the Steam Community, comes at a time when the game is under fire for being bug-ridden and not optimised which has led it to fall out down the pecking order behind the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends for the biggest Battle Royale Game.

Even with the release of new maps like Vikendi and Sanhok the game has not hit numbers like it once used to, with the player base for November 2018 being 2 a whopping 2 million less than its peak.

In contrast, its mobile counterpart is doing great, with huge sponsorships from the likes of Oppo for esports tournaments. Even as the PC version struggles to regain its mojo, it will still be regarded as the game which fuelled the Battle Royale craze in the community.

Pick’Em Predictions! TalkEsport picks

The stage is set. The seedings are set. The teams are set to battle in the Challengers Stage at IEM Katowice 2019. But, the player-driven seedings will bring about a change in the format. While you may have put your favourite teams as 3-0 or gone for some generic 0-3 picks, we provide you with a little insight into how the seeding might affect your decision.

Favourites for 3-0 Pick: Fnatic, Cloud 9

  • TalkEsport Picks NRG

The first matchups are already known. We assume the favourites all manage to win, except in the AVANGAR vs Renegades match, which is likely too close to call and a potential upset from Vega Squadron in the G2 game.

The seedings will then play a massive role. Among the 1-0 teams, Fnatic should get Vega Squadron. NRG will get the winner between Avangar and Renegades, Cloud 9 will get Vitality and Nip will square off against ENCE.

Let us now assume Fnatic and NRG win their respective matches. Then, we are left with Cloud9/Vitality and NiP/ENCE. If Cloud 9 wins, Fnatic will get either NiP or ENCE. But, if Vitality win, Fnatic will face the French heavyweights.

We assume Vitality have what it takes to beat Cloud9 and ENCE somehow overcome NiP. We are left with Fnatic vs Vitality and NRG vs ENCE as the two 2-0 matchups. While Fnatic is not a sure bet against Vitality, NRG is a heavier favourite in comparison, if matched against ENCE.

We are going with the above simulated result, which puts NRG in a great position. Now, suppose, if G2 were to beat Vega Squadron in the first matchup, we could see Fnatic face the winner of Avangar and Renegades while NRG gets G2.

Either way, we feel NRG are good to go at least 2-0. And you can check various simulated results to see that, should NRG and Fnatic both go 2-0, NRG will have a more favourable matchup than the Swedes.

Favourites for 0-3 Pick: Vici, Spirit

  • TalkEsport Picks Vici Gaming

No fooling anyone, Vici Gaming is the easiest option for 0-3 and we can back that up with an explanation in line with what we said above.

In the first set of simulation, we are going for G2 to lose to Vega. Should that happen, Vici will get matched with G2, which, like their opening fixture against Fnatic, will be another match where they are expected to lose.

If we assume Vega loses, Vici will still go up against the loser of the Avangar and Renegades matchup. We feel Vici will reach 0-2 either way. In the elimination matchup, if we go by the first simulation, Vici should come up against either Avangar or Renegades.

If the second one comes true, Vici should face Spirit while Grayhound goes up against Winstrike in the other 0-2 one. While Vici Gaming has done well to qualify for the event, we feel they will be a bit underprepared or overwhelmed by the situation. Can go for Grayhound as well.

TalkEsport Picks Fnatic, Cloud9, NiP, ENCE, Vitality, Vega Squadron and FURIA to qualify.

  • Odd One In: FURIA

  • Odd One Out: G2

FURIA are largely an unknown quantity and a team we believe to have immense potential to surprise the CSGO fans at the major. They have quirky and early round boosts with an aim to gain advantage from the get-go.

But, what surprised me was their ability to be calm in clutches and close encounters, which suggests there is more substance to the FURIA lineup than just pure ability. While FURIA might find it difficult to match up to the big teams, we expect them to dominate the teams in and around their seeding.

We expect them to come very close, if not qualify. G2 on the other hand, just look underprepared and a lineup that seem like they are biding their time till the post-Major shuffle.

All the other teams mentioned might already be common with others as they are largely the favourites. Another outsider is TYLOO, especially with so many ‘underdog’ lineups making it to the New Challengers Stage.

What are your picks? Tell us in the comments below.

Infinite and Singularity part ways

1

The North American Organisation have announced that Gage “Infinite” Green will be stepping down from the active roster citing difference in personalities which held the team back from advancing forwards.

Gage “Infinite” Green, the 20-year-old North-American has declared himself as a free agent and will be exploring his options in the CS:GO scene.

Gage “Infinite” Green joined Singularity on the 9th of Jan after Cloud9 snubbed him and decided to go with Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro, who is currently listed as their coach for IEM Katowice.

In his short stint with Singularity, the team reached a 4-3 record in MDL and failed to make the closed qualifiers for IEM Sydney.

With this roster update, the current roster stand as:

  • [flag=us] Joshua “oSee” Ohm
  • [flag=us] Cameron “hydrex” Kern
  • [flag=us] Ryan “ryann” Welsh
  • [flag=us] Ian “motm” Hardy
  • [flag=us] Ricky “floppy” Kemery
  • [flag=us] Jared “MAC-1” Schneider (coach)

Tito announces 2ez exit

6

Rahul ‘TitoSavage’ Sridhar is the freshest departure from 2ez gaming. The player, who has been representing 2ez since it’s inception, has been a key component in all of their successes and their rise towards the top echelons of the Indian CSGO scene.

Tito’s announcement comes moments after Antidote announced his departure from 2ez gaming, which seems to either be heading towards a fresh lineup or a disband, something that has been hinted at recently by the players.

The player confessed his love for the time he spent as part of the 2ez family while also stating that he had found lifelong friends in his teammates.

We reached out to Tito for a comment and this is what he had to say.

I’m waiting to see what offers I receive and I will eventually choose one after careful consideration. Thanks Ameya Mankar & co. for the love

The Indian shuffle is well and truly under way, with the ESL INDIA 2018 edition coming to an end. There is an impasse or void of around a month or more and we are already starting to see teams chop and change lineups in order to prepare for the new season.

Antidote officially departs 2ez gaming roster

5

Sabyasachi ‘Antidote’ Bose has announced through his social media account that he is officially no longer a part of 2ez gaming. The player joined 2ez straight after the Optic India disbandment and featured for 2ez in the Asia Closed Qualifiers of ESL Pro League Season 8.

Atidote thanked 2ez owner Ameya Mankar for the opportunity and his teammates for the short but beautiful stint. The update comes a day after Entity announced the signing of Poki, who was announced as a departure from the 2ez roster on the same day of the ESL INDIA Winter Season Grand Final.

The AWPer has impressed over the last year or so and will now be looking forward to the next chapter of his journey. If you take a look at his announcement carefully, you might find a hint as to what his next team might be.

For now, though, it is better not to speculate and wait for Antidote’s announcement. He is reportedly courting several offers right now and it will be interesting to see what his next step will be.

Apex Legends Bug lets you win without playing

1

A reddit user has found a bug in the popular Battle Royale Apex Legends that lets you win without playing.

Irish_R3bel said on the apex legends subreddit that his brother encountered a bug whereby he was not able to leave the ship at the beginning of the match, which led him to take no damage and ultimately win the game because all the opponents died off the zone.

A user by the name of Alkkine seems to have found how it happens.

“If you rez someone while the ship is moving and are on the bottom floor of it you will pass through the walls and if you stop you get stuck in the ship permanently, found out the hard way,” he commented.

While the Apex legends team is working on fixing the bug, many users have faced similar problems. The thread was voted to the top of the subreddit with many players complaining of the problem that left them disappointed with 2nd place.

The makers have promised to fix the bug soon, and asked the creator to send them more details, but did not provide a timeline. Although bugs are very common during the first few weeks of the release of a game, this one seems to be too big to ignore.

Apex Legends is a free to play Battle Royale game released on 4th of February on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The Titanfall based game is tipped to be the “Fortnite Killer”, after it crossed 10 million users in just 72 hours.

China finally recognises Esports as a profession

1

In a welcome move, the Chinese Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (CMHRSS) recognised esports as a profession, days after it extended its support to the industry last year.

On January 25, the ministry announced 15 new professions, including “esports professional” and “esports operator. The term “esports professional” is defined as players who compete in esports tournaments or perform at esports events, while an operator is one who organises a tournament.

However, a peculiar point to note in the announcement was that the Ministry accepted Account boosting as a legitimate profession. This has caused some confusion within the community as it amounts to cheating and is punishable in games like League of Legends and Overwatch.

Account boosting is the method by which a professional player uses another users account with the intention of ranking him up, or what is known as boosting in the gaming community. While the definition of boosting could have been misinterpreted by the Ministry, it is one area which needs to be cleared upon. Nevertheless, the announcement is a welcome move for one of the biggest gaming countries in the world.
