Valorant Retake Game Mode Revealed: Everything You Need to Know

Riot Games has officially unveiled Retake, a brand-new game mode coming to Valorant with the upcoming Season 2026 Act 4 update.

Aimed to help players sharpen their post-plant skills, Retake focuses on the crucial moments after the Spike is planted. This new game mode offers a focused environment to practice high-pressure post-plant scenarios like defending the site, coordinating utility with teammates, and retaking the site before the Spike can detonate.

Instead of a full match buildup, Retake drops players straight into high-stakes 3v3 action where the Spike has already been planted. Attackers have to defend the Spike till it explodes, while the Defenders have to retake the site and defuse the Spike before it’s too late.

In this article, we’ll take a look at everything you need to know about the Retake game mode in Valorant.

Valorant Retake Release Date

As already confirmed by Riot Games, the new Retake game mode goes live alongside the release of Valorant 13.0 on June 24, 2026.

Valorant Retake Mode Explained

Each round begins with the Spike auto-planting a few seconds in, at a clearly visible spot on site.

The Attackers spawn on site and must defend the Spike, winning by eliminating the opposing team or running out the bomb timer. The Defenders spawn outside the bombsite and have to fight their way in to defuse the Spike or wipe out the Planters first.

Sides swap every round, giving both teams equal time for attacking and defending. The first team to grab five rounds is declared the winner.

Retake ditches the traditional buy phase for a card-based loadout system, similar to the one we have seen in CS2.

Each round, players have to pick two cards: one for weapons and shields, and one for ability charges. Every card offers two randomized options, and both pools escalate as the match progresses.

Retake uses single bombsites pulled from existing Valorant maps. The mode launches with a curated selection of sites suited to its fast pace, and Riot plans to expand the map pool incrementally throughout the Act.

With its condensed format and constant high-stakes battles, Retake is certain to deliver the adrenaline of Valorant’s biggest moments without the time commitment of a full competitive match.

Other than introducing Retake to the game, the Valorant 13.0 patch is also set to introduce a plethora of new content, including a new Battle Pass, the new map Summit, Agent changes, and more.
