Riot Games is Paying Hackers Up To $100,000 To Expose Flaws With Vanguard

Riot Games Incentivizes Ethical Hacking to Strengthen Vanguard Security

Riot Games is offering up to a $100,000 USD bounty for hackers who can expose vulnerabilities with Vanguard, the anti-cheat system for Valorant and League of Legends.

In the past, Vanguard has found itself amid the heat of controversy due to the anti-cheat system requiring kernel-level access to users’ computers. However, it’s hard to deny its effectiveness in freeing the game from cheaters.

While you can still occasionally find cheaters when playing Valorant, especially in the higher elos, it’s still not as big of a problem as some other prominent games in the genre.

As per a listing on HackerOne, Riot is further intensifying its battle against cheaters by putting up large bounties for hackers who can find exploits on Vanguard.

For the uninitiated, HackerOne is a service that enables companies to find out vulnerabilities in their software setting up bug bounties for ethical hackers.

Here are the incentives that Riot Games is putting up for hackers who manage to find exploits with Vanguard.:

  • Network Attack with No User Interaction:
    • Kernel-Level Code Execution: Up to $100,000
    • Unauthorized Data Access: Up to $75,000
  • Network Attack Requiring User Interaction:
    • Kernel-Level Code Execution: Up to $75,000
    • Unauthorized Data Access: Up to $50,000
  • Local Attack for Privilege Escalation:
    • Kernel-Level Code Execution: Up to $35,000
    • Unauthorized Data Access: Up to $25,000

Note that the bounties are only given out to exploits related to Valorant’s driver-level driver. Additionally, if the hackers speak out about any exploit publicly, they’ll be ineligible for the bug bounty program.
