PUBG Mobile hits 600 million downloads and $1.5 billion in lifetime earnings

Currently the most eminent yet notorious mobile title, PUBG Mobile has hit 600 million downloads worldwide and a whooping $1.5 Billion in lifetime revenue. The game has had its downfall but it came back so strong that it now looks invincible. Analytics firm Sensor Tower confirms that the game has earned more than $1.5 billion since the beginning of 2019 and major credit for this goes to the monetization of the game in China.

Released last year on March 19, PUBG Mobile has had its own moments of defeat and glory in India. The game received a frenzy of negativity online after an emulator controversy erupted which defamed majority of the content creators and emulator streamers. PUBG Mobile was also associated with a lot of criminal cases and death incidents which made the game famous for all the wrong reasons. The Government had to step in and impose bans in certain states of India against PUBG Mobile. During this time of turmoil, the esports scene surrounding this game came through to save the damsel in distress.

The competitive scene of PUBG Mobile is filled with year round exciting events in which we saw higher engagement from Indian squads this year. Prominent names like Entity Gaming, Team Soul, Synerge, 8Bit and countless more sparked the Indian mobile gaming scene like never seen before. The entrance of an international organization namely Fnatic to come and acquire and Indian Pubg Mobile lineup also created waves within the system.

PUBG Mobile’s success has slingshot mobile gaming above PC gaming in India and has put evergreen esports titles like Dota 2 onto the back seat. The exclusion of Dota 2 from Dreamhack Delhi invitational 2019 and the disbanding of Global Esports Dota 2 lineup confirm the fact that the game’s future is in grave danger. In the coming years, PC gaming as a whole might come under similar tension unless the community steps up to equate the balance.

To help you understand the gravity of the situation, market research firm Newzoo has reported that mobile games are expected to earn $68.5 billion by the end of the year. This amount represents almost half of the total games market. PUBG Moible’s success could also be accredited to the game’s optimization for lower end devices, constant updates and varieties of game modes as well as a thriving esports scene.

The fact that Mobile Gaming is getting bigger and better at an unprecedented rate but PC gaming is merely trying to hold on and sustain right where they are. Such big numbers and figures open doors for more investments from international esports giants into mobile gaming as clearly we can see, the future lies right here.
