Mesut Ozil removed from PES 2020 in China Over His Tweet Condemning Muslim Oppression In Xinjiang

The German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil has been banned from the Chinese iteration of Pro Evolution Soccer Mobile, the distributor confirmed. The Chinese company NetEase said Ozil’s harsh comments against China is what triggered such a move by them.

[In China] Qurans are burned, mosques were closed down, Islamic theological schools, madrasas were banned, religious scholars were killed one by one. Despite all this, Muslims stay quiet.”

Translation of Ozil’s Tweet by The Guardian

The Chinese Government has taken extreme steps against what appears to be a delinquency by the Arsenal playmaker. Arsenal’s Premier League game against Manchester City was not broadcasted in China last Sunday as a fallout to his comments. The Chinese claimed Ozil to be duped by fake news and no part of his statement expresses the fact. The 31 year old’s tweet was targeted to the sufferings of Uyghurs in Xinjiang of China where several camps are established to force them to part ways with Islam and adhere the Han culture as well as support the ruling Communist Party according to several reports.

The United Nation have addressed this matter earlier this year. A joint statement was released collectively by 23 Nations against the racial discrimination in the aforementioned region of China.

United States Of America’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo became the first political figure to come public in favor of Mesut Ozil in an aggressive tweet aimed at China. Athough Ozil’s club has backed themselves out completely from this matter stating “As a football club, Arsenal has always adhered to the principle of not involving itself in politics”.
