CSGO: IEM Cologne 2021 Will Feature POV Streams for Your Favourite Players

In a recent announcement on the official Intel Extreme Masters’ website, ESL confirmed that the highly anticipated playoffs for the ongoing tournament IEM Cologne 2021 will feature POV streams across their Twitch channels to take the viewers’ experience to the next level.

For the unaware, POV streams (Point of View streams) enable the viewers to experience the action first-hand from the perspective of their favourite CSGO pros. Viewers will be given complete freedom to pick and choose any player’s perspective to watch during the playoffs. On top of that, there’s also a dedicated minimap stream that viewers can choose to watch.

“You’ll be able to select from the 10 players on the server, the mainstream, and a minimap stream!” ESL confirmed.

If you do decide to watch the streams from players’ perspectives, here’s what you need to keep in mind:

  • X-RAY will be turned off in the stream to create a closer representation of what the professional player sees and based on what information they are making decisions.
  • Viewers will be able to see all ten players in the minimap.

ESL stated in the blog post, “With the current beta setup we can only provide the radar with both teams showing, or no teams due to the server settings and is not easily done for 10 streams.”

  • There will be no player cameras in the POV streams.
  • Live player comms won’t be available either.

You can check out all the links to the POV streams and the main stream on the official IEM blog post here.

POV FAQ (Credits to ESL)

Will X-RAY be turned off?

Yes, X-RAY will be turned off, this creates a closer representation of what the player sees and based on what information they are making decisions.

Why can I see both teams on the radar?

With the current beta setup we can only provide the radar with both teams showing, or no teams due to the server settings and is not easily done for 10 streams.

Why are there no player cameras?

As we’re still beta testing the POV-Streams we want to make sure the basics are working first, adding player cams to 10 extra streams is very complex. This will be looked into in the future.

Will there be live player comms on the POV-Streams?

No, of course not.
