Fortnite is not supported natively on Chromebooks, making it extremely difficult to run the game as we usually do on Windows PCs or consoles. That being said, it is difficult to run the game, but not impossible, as there are two known workarounds if you are determined to play the game on a Chromebook.
It goes without saying that Chromebooks aren’t designed with gamers in mind, making them a poor choice if you are looking for a portable gaming machine. Built for productivity, Chromebooks’ limited support for games often gives a highly undesirable gaming experience, especially for games that aren’t natively supported on Google’s OS. Here’s how you can enjoy Fortnite on a Chromebook despite its lack of native support.
Cloud Gaming
Cloud Gaming has been a revolutionary technology for the gaming industry, as it has rendered the need for well-equipped gaming systems partially useless. Having the game running on a remote server proves to be a handy way to run the game on a platform that doesn’t have native support.
- Open Google Chrome on your Chromebook.
- Go to a cloud gaming service that supports Fortnite, such as NVIDIA GeForce NOW or Xbox Cloud Gaming.
- Create an account or sign in.
- Link your Epic Games account when prompted.
- Launch Fortnite directly from the browser.
There are a few upsides to it if you can afford to pay for Cloud Gaming services, one of them being the storage space you save by not having the game files stored on your local drive. The experience of a competitive game will be far from ideal with the high latency, but at least it becomes playable.
Fortnite Android App
This may not be a universal solution for Chromebooks, given that not all of them support this app. If your Chromebook supports it, you can download the official Android version of Fortnite through the Google Play Store and enjoy it on your Chromebook. Point to be noted that the game would not be running with the highest frames possible, making the experience far from ideal.
Unfortunately for Chromebook owners, Fortnite is not natively supported on the platform, making workarounds the only way possible for them to be able to play it. Word of advice, getting a PC or a console drastically improves the experience of the game, and unless you are a casual player, Chromebooks can be a decent alternative.
