Developers Confirm CS: Legacy in Work

Following its announcement, news surrounding CS: Legacy was little and far between, leading fans to worry whether they would get a legacy version of the world’s favorite FPS game, but developers have confirmed in the latest post that it is on the way.

While the original version of the game was a mod developed as a side-project, Valve has now taken it under its wing to give the development its deserved attention, to bring back the experience of the original game to the modern age.

Unlike Valorant, CS2 doesn’t get a plethora of in-game element updates from time to time, which tends to be the reason a lot of players get bored, and having a legacy version would allow players on the casual end of the spectrum to relive the older days of the game.

CS: Legacy is a completely independent, non-commercial project developed on Valve’s public Source SDK Base 2013. We are using the SDK in accordance with Valve’s own publicly available guidelines, Steamworks documentation, and SDK license, which specifically permit the use of any Valve IP for non-commercial Source Engine projects without requiring a separate license from Valve. This is the same framework under which we developed and released CSPromod on Source SDK 2007 back in the day, without encountering any issues,” read their post.

The developers highlighted:

  • We use the public Source 2013 SDK, officially provided and maintained by Valve on GitHub.
  • We do not sell or charge for the game in any way.
  • We do not monetize gameplay or provide unlocks, keys, or in-game items.
  • We own 100% of our code and assets — everything from visuals to UI to characters is built from scratch by our team.
  • We do not mount or rely on Valve’s game files. Some legacy sound files are in use, but we are ready to replace them if required.

We are yet to get a timeline for the game, but it will be refreshing to move away from the competitive side of CS2 for a while and enjoy the game in its more raw and unrefined version.

Road to EWC: Esports World Cup 2025 Qualification Pathways Announced

0

The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) has revealed its detailed qualification route for the much-awaited Esports World Cup 2025, launching the Road to EWC, a worldwide campaign aimed at bringing competitive gaming stars from all levels together. It will cover more than 200 tournaments across the globe, taking local communities from there to the international stage and ultimately to the main event that will be held in Riyadh from July 7 to August 24.

The announcement ushers in a landmark moment in EWCF’s vision for creating long-term global development in the esports sector. The 2025 edition will feature 24 game titles, including new entries like Chess, Crossfire, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, and VALORANT. More than 2,000 professional-level players and 200 top-level Clubs will vie for an eye-watering prize pool of over $70 million—the biggest in competitive gaming history.

Road to EWC is about empowering players, Clubs, and communities to be part of something bigger. By linking tournaments around the globe, we’re opening doors for talent at every tier and laying the groundwork for a thriving, sustainable esports ecosystem.

Faisal Bin Homran, Chief Product Officer at EWCF

Qualification types differ by title. For the highest-profile games such as League of Legends, VALORANT, Overwatch 2, and Apex Legends, qualification is being managed through official publisher leagues such as the LEC, VCT, OWCS, and ALGS. In contrast, open qualifiers will decide entries for games like Dota 2, Call of Duty: Warzone, PUBG, Teamfight Tactics, and StarCraft II.

Fighting games will feature community-driven paths, with events such as EVO Japan, Combo Breaker, and CEO being major qualifiers for games like Street Fighter 6, TEKKEN 8, and Fatal Fury. For mobile games, mainstream hits like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Free Fire, PUBG MOBILE, and Honor of Kings will host regional leagues in Southeast Asia, MENA, and LATAM to decide national representatives for the World Cup.

There is one last chance qualifier in July for some titles such as Chess, Overwatch 2, and EA SPORTS FC 25. They will provide emerging stars and up-and-coming players with that last chance to qualify for their place on the Riyadh stage.

Alongside the tournament format, Road to EWC is also backed by a multi-platform content approach. From behind-the-scenes exclusives and player interviews to informative pieces on each game, the campaign is built to involve fans more closely with the competition and the people behind it.

Is IShowSpeed in the GTA 6 Trailer 2?

0

Following a long wait, Rockstar Games finally released the second trailer for GTA 6 on May 6th, and it has created a buzz in the gaming community not just due to its jaw-dropping visuals and open world, but also because it may have featured one of the biggest names in the world of streaming — IShowSpeed.

IShowSpeed was livestreaming his reaction to the second GTA 6 trailer when a specific moment in the nearly three-minute video grabbed his attention.

“I’m in the game!” Speed exclaimed as he realised that his name may have appeared in the trailer. “Chat, they got my name in the game.”

In case you haven’t had the chance to check out the newly released second trailer for GTA 6, around the 2-minute and 30-second mark, protagonists Jason and Lucia drive past an auto shop with a sign that reads ‘Watkins Auto Parts.'”

Given Speed’s real name is Darren Watkins Jr, his excitement upon seeing his name within one of the most anticipated video games in history was understandable, to say the least.

Needless to say, while the “Watkins Auto Parts” shop in the game trailer is definitely real, no official connection between IShowSpeed and GTA 6 has been confirmed by Rockstar at the time of writing.

However, considering IShowSpeed’s meteoric rise in popularity over the past couple of years, a subtle nod or in-game reference doesn’t seem far-fetched.

Fortnite Reactive Kicks Leaked

According to popular data miner HYPEX, sneakers that visibly react to in-game behaviours like movement or battle are set to be released as Fortnite‘s first reactive kicks. Kicks are not new to the game, but to have ones that respond dynamically to in-game movements, they have all it takes to be the talk of the town.

The pictures first appeared on X thanks to HYPEX, who boasts a solid track record. Named Magmatix, these sneakers will have a fiery glow at the sole as you continue to move. While these settings are optional, there is hardly anyone who would keep them turned off.

For players who are eager to get it, make sure to have 600 V-Bucks on the day of release. Given that they are not very expensive, it might be a cool item to have in your inventory. Having dynamic kicks opens up a new avenue for the developers to introduce a new range of products to the game.

It goes without saying that the initial community reactions suggest that this line of skins would be a golden goose for Epic. The release has been scheduled with the Darth Maul shop update, but something tells us that Magmatix is the highest-selling item for quite a while.

New CS2 Update Brings Weekly Missions and New Maps

After quite a while, Valve has released a CS2 update that significantly changes the game. The latest update will see a couple of new maps get added to the game, along with weekly missions that players can complete to farm XP.

Daily missions used to come as a part of Operations, but it seems Valve has made them independent. As players now have the chance to get additional XP every week without an Operation, this will likely see a massive rise in daily active users who will be lured to the game, quite a strategic update nonetheless.

The new maps, namely, Agency, Grail, Jura, Dogtown, and Brewery, will replace Basalt, Edin, Palais, and Whistle across different game modes, and it goes without saying that this will not affect the Active Duty map pool.

Here are the patch notes:

MISSIONS

  • Added Weekly Missions, which can be entered through the main menu or play menu.
  • Players receive one mission each week.
  • The weekly mission expires after 7 days and rewards XP for completion.

MAPS

  • Removed community maps Basalt, Edin, Palais, and Whistle from all game modes.
  • Added community maps Jura, Grail, and Agency to Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch modes.
  • Added community maps Dogtown and Brewery to Wingman mode.
  • Re-organized Casual and Deathmatch map groups.
    • Defusal Group Alpha: Dust 2, Mirage, Inferno, Vertigo.
    • Defusal Group Delta: Train, Anubis, Ancient, Overpass, Nuke.
    • Community Map Group: Jura, Grail, Agency.
    • Hostage Group: Office, Italy.

AUDIO

  • Added “Main Menu Ambience Volume” setting.
  • Fixed some cases where shooting visible enemies over the top of smoke would not play an attacker feedback sound.
  • Fixed some cases where gameplay sounds were inaudible or would skip.
  • Removed snd_setmixer, snd_setmixlayer, snd_soundmixer_setmixlayer_amount, and snd_soundmixer_set_trigger_factor console commands.

MISC

  • Fixed a bug where input bindings to scancode56 (US English key “/”) wouldn’t persist across app launches.
  • Lobby invites from players marked with “Block All Communication” in Steam will now be ignored in-game.

Palworld Update 0.5.5 Removes Gliding Pals Amid Nintendo Lawsuit

0

Pocketpair issued update 0.5.5 for Palworld on May 8, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This update implemented one notable change, which is the disabling of the option to use Pals for gliding. Players can no longer use Pals for movement in the air; they can only use conventional gliders. Although this shift restricts air mobility, the previously used Pals for gliding now offer passive benefits for flight.

This change is one of a series of game-related changes made by Pocketpair concerning an ongoing legal battle with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The case, which was filed in September 2024 in the Tokyo District Court, claims that Palworld violates several patents on creature-catching mechanics, such as using throwable objects to capture creatures, determining if a thrown object will enter combat or capture a creature, and riding creatures in the game.

In a statement released with the update, Pocketpair reaffirmed its disagreement with the claims, reaffirming that the patents in question are invalid. The company did admit that it needed to make some concessions to prevent Palworld’s development and release from being disrupted. Pocketpair highlighted that it is dedicated to its community, confirming that although the changes were not perfect, they had to be made to maintain the overall gameplay experience.

The case has wider implications for the gaming industry, specifically regarding the patentability of gameplay mechanics. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have submitted several patents in Japan for creature-catching and riding mechanics. Some of these patents were submitted after Palworld’s launch, which has raised questions about their validity and the possible effect on innovation in the industry.

Despite the legal issues, Palworld has been a huge commercial success. The game sold more than 15 million copies on Steam alone and reached 10 million players on Xbox in its first month. Pocketpair has also announced to bring Palworld to more people through a mobile version, which will be developed in collaboration with Krafton, the publisher of PUBG.

Warzone Ranked Play Disabled in Season 3 Reloaded

0

The return of Ranked Play in Call of Duty: Warzone under the Season 3 Reloaded update was received positively from the community. Nevertheless, ongoing technical problems have forced developers to turn the competitive mode off temporarily to provide an even and stable gaming experience.

Since Season 3 Reloaded’s release, a majority of players have been complaining about an increase in game-breaking bugs, constant crashing, and server outages. These problems have also had a damaging effect on the Ranked Play system, where match performance and placing are a primary factor in progression. Disconnections in the middle of a match or freezes at the Winner’s Circle have led to unfair Skill Rating (SR) loss, causing resentment among the community.

As a response to these issues, Raven Software on May 8 stated that Warzone’s Ranked Play would be temporarily removed from service. The move is meant to resolve the server instability and fix the SR distribution bugs that have haunted the mode. The developers have apologized for the inconvenience and promised players that getting Ranked Play back to its original competitive integrity is a high priority.

The short-term removal of Ranked Play has deprived players of access to the competitive mode, although other battle royale playlists are unaffected. Although the developers have not yet given a timeline for the return of Ranked Play, they have stated that the mode will return once the root issues are addressed. Since Ranked seasons reset upon the launch of a fresh seasonal update, it is speculated that the feature might not be back until Season 4 is released on May 29, providing a new competitive beginning.

To help offset the effects of these technical problems, the developers have suspended timeout penalties within Warzone Ranked Play for now. Before, players who got disconnected from a Ranked Play game were given suspensions and SR penalties. This move seeks to protect players from unfair punishment because of server disconnections.
