Team Liquid faced Cloud9 in the Group B of ESL One Cologne NA. Although, the starting was a bit rugged for Team Liquid, they managed to secure 3 points with a 2-1 victory over Cloud9 (17-19 on Overpass, 16-8 on Vertigo and 16-10 on Nuke).

Cloud9 banned Mirage and Liquid banned Train at the starting of map veto. After that, Cloud9 picked Overpass as their first pick and Liquid picked Vertigo. Then Inferno and Dust2 got banned leaving Nuke as the final map.

In Overpass, Cloud9 had an excellent starting. They not only won the pistol round, but also they secured 10 rounds in the T side while Liquid just won 1 round. However, on the 12th round, Stewie2K got 4 kills with a spray and Liquid started coming back. The first half ended 10-5. The starting of second half was not bad for Liquid. They won the pistol round with a fast B rush. After a try-hard game, it became 15-15 and overtime started. In the first overtime, Josh “oSee” Ohm’s AWPing helped Cloud9 to secure Overpass with a 19-17 victory.

The second map was Vertigo, the map Liquid loves. Liquid was leading the first half with a 11-4 score. Although, Cloud9 was coming back slowly, things started changing when Liquid started playing aggressively. With Stewie2K’s in-game leading, Liquid secured Vertigo with a 16-8 victory.

The final map was Nuke. The first 12 round was flawless for Team Liquid. Cloud9 was looking devastated in the first half with only 3 rounds. Jake “Stewie2K” Yip and Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski were ruling the map. Even though Ricky “floppy” Kemery and Josh “oSee” Ohm tried to comeback, Cloud9 lost the match with a 10-16 score.

After all, it was really a great match between the two top-rated North American teams. Team Liquid will face Evil Geniuses this Saturday and Cloud9 will face Triumph on Monday. Let’s see if Cloud9 can gather 3 points defeating Triumph. Keep following TalkEsport for all the updates.
