After a dramatic opening week in Paris, the Esports World Cup 2026 wastes no time ramping back up. Week 2’s Championship Weekend packs in four major finals: League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Free Fire, and Dota 2, with the Club Championship standings still very much up for grabs.
League of Legends: T1 and G2 Look to Answer MSI Heartbreak
League of Legends closes out its Group Stage just before the weekend, sending two teams from each group of four into the playoffs. Faker’s T1 enter Paris carrying the sting of a shock Mid-Season Invitational exit at the hands of G2 Esports, a result that dominated headlines across the competitive scene. Both sides advanced through their opening matches before dropping their respective upper bracket finals. T1 responded by beating GAM Esports to lock in a playoff spot, while G2 still has to survive an advance-or-go-home series against Dplus.
Defending EWC champions Gen.G have already booked their playoff berth after eliminating home favorites Karmine Corp, joined by newly crowned MSI winners Hanwha Life Esports, along with AG.AL and Bilibili Gaming. Karmine Corp, however, gave the Paris crowd something to cheer about anyway, clawing back from an opening defeat with wins over Team Secret and Sentinels to punch their own ticket to the next stage.
The League of Legends grand final is set for Sunday, July 19, at 1:30 PM BST / 2:30 PM CEST / 3:30 PM KSA.
MLBB Women’s International: A First-Ever Undisputed World Champion
This week marks a genuine milestone for mobile esports. The tournament formerly known as the MLBB Women’s Invitational has been rebranded as the MLBB Women’s International 2026 after developer Moonton elevated it to full World Championship status, meaning this weekend will crown competitive Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s first undisputed women’s world champion.
Sixteen clubs battled through two group brackets, with the top four from each advancing to a single-elimination Knockout Stage. Eight teams face off on July 17 with no lower bracket to fall back on. One loss and a team is out. Last year’s MWI champions, Team Vitality, will look to defend their crown when the best-of-seven grand final is played on July 18.
The MLBB Women’s International grand final takes place Saturday, July 18, at 1:30 PM BST / 2:30 PM CEST / 3:30 PM KSA.
Free Fire: $1 Million and the Weekend’s First Grand Final
Free Fire brings Battle Royale intensity to the Qiddiya City Grid stage, with 24 squads chasing a $1,000,000 prize pool. The field splits into two groups of 12 for the opening two days, with the top four from each group advancing directly to the Finals. Teams finishing 5th through 10th get a second chance via the July 17 Survival Stage, rounding out the 12-team Finals field for July 18.
Defending champions EVOS Divine return to protect the title they won last year in an emotional victory. Beyond the trophy, the champion walks away with a $300,000 top prize and an automatic berth in the Free Fire Global Finals in Bangkok.
Free Fire will deliver the weekend’s first grand final on Saturday, July 18, at 12:00 PM BST / 1:00 PM CEST / 2:00 PM KSA.
Dota 2: Two Weeks of Grinding Reach Their Climax
Dota 2’s marathon finally reaches its end this weekend, with $2,000,000 in prize money and 1,000 Club Championship points on the line. The Survivor Stage wraps up July 16, determining which teams join the four Group Stage winners in the single-elimination Playoffs.
Nigma Galaxy, Team Falcons, Team Yandex, and PVISION topped their groups, and they’re joined by BB Team, Vici Gaming, defending champions Team Spirit, and Rune Eaters. Team Falcons enter as one of the storylines to watch, having already secured Club Championship points by reaching the playoffs, and having dropped just a single map through the group stage, the club is in position for its first maximum-points haul of EWC 2026.
The Dota 2 grand final is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, at 11:00 AM BST / 12:00 PM CEST / 1:00 PM KSA.
Club Championship Race Still Wide Open
Despite entering as the tournament’s two biggest favorites for the overall Club Championship, Team Falcons and Team Vitality have yet to assert real dominance in the standings. Team Vitality’s best returns so far come from a pair of fifth-place finishes in VALORANT and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, worth 400 points. Team Falcons look better positioned heading into Dota 2, while Team Vitality will lean on its Mobile Legends: Bang Bang roster to defend its women’s title. Both organizations still have rosters alive in MLBB and Free Fire, keeping their Club Championship hopes firmly intact.
One of the weekend’s more human storylines comes from Venezuela’s MIA Corp, competing in Free Fire after overcoming serious travel disruption. Earthquakes struck the squad’s home country last month, forcing long diversions and last-minute scrambling just to reach Paris. Having made it to the Esports World Cup despite the upheaval back home, MIA Corp’s run is likely to offer fans in earthquake-hit Venezuela a welcome distraction, regardless of the result.
