Among Us is recognized globally as one of the best games this year and although the game is quite simple, it is not completely safe from the cheating problems. Almost every game on the planet has its fair share of cheaters trying to exploit the game in one way or another to gain an unfair advantage. First, the cheaters riddled the fascinating “battle-royale” Fall Guys, and now, Among us is facing similar problems.

Among Us and its casual play style may not look like it can have any hacking or cheating problems but if you have entered the public lobbies in recent days, you are bound to come across some players that just don’t seem to have limits.

Whether it is doing tasks at an impossible speed, going on a killing spree, or venting through spaces that shouldn’t have existed, everything seems to be possible for now.

The cheats for imposters have made the game unplayable on the public servers because even if a single cheater enters the lobby, the game may end in a few seconds.

The cheating imposters use unfair advantages and tweaks like no cooldown kill button, speed hacks, and even the crewmates have their own hacks like using vents as imposters do, speedrunning the tasks, and finishing the round even before a single meeting is called.

With such hacking issues, the game’s popularity among public servers may die soon, and to tackle this, the game has been working on fixes on several fronts.

As per a Kotaku interview, the game programmer and business head, Forest Willard explained that making changes to the game is extremely difficult without “breaking the game” as they cause some bugs and issues. “We’re rushing to get an accounting system in place so we can have better moderation and reporting systems built around that,” Willard wrote in a DM to Kotaku.

He adds, “Also getting help with making the servers better at detecting and blocking hacks. And investigating client-side hack prevention as well. I’m sort of scrambling to get all the right people in place, but I’m attacking it from multiple angles so it can get better in many ways hopefully all at once.”

From the statements above, it is clear that the team is actively working to curb the hacking problems and trying to implement a new anti-cheat system that does not exist in the game for now. Hackers may not ruin your games if you play in private lobbies with your friends but it certainly affects the experience of casual players entering public lobbies.
