If you find your Wardogs constantly crashing your system or restarting your PC entirely, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
Over the past few weeks, Bulkhead’s upcoming all-out tactical warfare FPS, Wardogs, has taken the internet by storm. Players from throughout the world have tuned into the game’s closed beta, which kicked off August 21, to try out the game ahead of its early access release.
However, the closed beta release of Wardogs has been far from flawless. The game suffered from incredibly long queue times, server issues, and players being unable to log in for the first few hours of the beta going live. While those issues have since mostly been resolved, there’s a bigger problem that remains at large: crashes.
Wardogs Crashes and System Reboots Explained
Since the closed beta went live, a number of players have reported that Wardogs has been repeatedly crashing and even rebooting their systems entirely without any obvious error.
Upon further inspection, it turns out that the issue primarily involves Easy Anti-Cheat, the kernel-level anti-cheat software that Wardogs uses to keep bad actors at bay.
From what we understand so far, this Easy Anti-Cheat conflicts with other kernel-level processes on your PC to crash your game, or worse, your entire system.
Fortunately, in most cases, Wardogs crashing and restarting your PC can be fixed.
How to Fix Wardogs Crashing and Rebooting Your PC?
The most common reason behind Wardogs crashing on your PC is a conflict with the kernel-level process “inpoutx64.sys”
A similar issue surfaced a few days ago in The Finals, and the developers acknowledged the issue while suggesting players delete the process.
As per reports, this issue is related to the most recent Windows Security update (KB5121003), which went live on August 12. This could also explain why players didn’t encounter Wardogs crashing during its Closed Alpha, which concluded on August 9.
To fix this, all you need to do is disable the inpoutx64 process and prevent it from auto-starting. Here are all the steps that you’ll need to follow:
- Open Command Prompt as an Administrator
- Type in “sc stop inpoutx64” and press Enter
- Type in “sc config inpoutx64 start= disabled” and press enter
- Reboot your PC
This enables you to be able to play Wardogs without removing “inpoutx64.sys” entirely. Should you ever need to re-enable it, all you need to do is type “sc start inpoutx64” in your Command Prompt.
Now, all that’s left for you to do is launch Wardogs, and your crashes should be fixed.
