Valorant Patch 1.13 Will Aim To Curb Smurfing And AFKs

The requirements for queueing in ranked will be tightened in the next update.

Is Valorant On Xbox?

The upcoming Valorant patch 1.13 for Valorant is just around the corner, and it looks like the developers are looking to crack down on the smurfing problem that the competitive shooter has been facing since the early days of its release.

If you’ve played ranked Valorants in the lower brackets of the competitive spectrum, then you’re probably aware of the huge number of smurfs infesting the game. One of the prime reasons behind the increasing number of smurfs in Valorant is the low requirement for playing the ranked mode, and it seems like Riot is about to fix this problem in the next Valorant update.

In a recent Reddit post complaining about the smurf problem, a Valorant player responded with an idea to curb the number of smurfs in the game by a margin. Currently, the requirements for joining the ranked Valorant queue are 20 unrated games. However, the outcomes of those games don’t matter, which is leading to players AFKing their first 20 games to gain access to the ranked queue. The player recommended switching these to 10 wins instead so AFK players have a much tougher time gaining access to ranked.

To the excitement of Valorant fans, a Riot developer responded to the comment and confirmed that this feature will be implemented in the next patch.

We’re changing it from 20 games played -> 10 wins,” the dev said. “We’re hoping this also helps with AFKs a bit.
