Steam Hits New Concurrent Peak of Nearly 42 Million Users

On January 4, Steam once again shattered its all-time record of concurrent users as nearly 42 million gamers were logged in to the platform at the same time.

As per data from SteamDB, the Valve-owned platform saw 41,816,052 active users concurrently running the app at around 14:00 UTC, marking a new record for Steam.

Over 13 million users were in-game at the time the record was set, while the other 28 million users were either busy browsing the Steam Store for the Winter Sale deals or simply had the app running in the background.

Steam Shatters Concurrent Player Record

The previous record for the highest number of concurrent users on Steam was set in October 2025.

The platform reached 41,666,455 active users on October 12, 2025, marking yet another leap from its previous peak of around 41 million just days prior.

As usual, games like Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG dominated the Steam Charts at the time of the new record, with Embark’s new extraction shooter Arc Raiders trailing closely behind.

Steam’s continued surge in concurrent users indicates that the platform’s growth is still far from slowing down. As publishers increasingly prioritize PC-first launches and live ecosystems, Steam’s record-breaking numbers are likely only to increase further as time progresses.
