We all know just how difficult a year we faced in 2020 and hopefully, there is better to come as we enter 2021. One of the biggest disappointments of 2020 was the cancellation of The International 2020, a Dota 2 event due to be held in the Ericsson Globe, Stockholm, Sweden. It was predicted the tournament would see viewing figures of over 2 million and there was a prize pool of over $30 million to be won.

Valve were extremely disappointed to have to postpone the event but there is a possibility the 10th The International could take place in August 2021. It is believed Stockholm will still host the event and the format will remain the same, with 18 teams competing for success.

There are still plenty of sponsorship opportunities available for this tournament and the organizers are hoping fans will be able to attend. With the month of August penciled in for The International, this gives plenty of time for the vaccinations to work and for groups of people to come together once more.

The joy this would bring eSports fans cannot be underestimated and you are advised to follow the latest Esport News throughout the year as events are confirmed.

Another of the major eSports events to be canceled last year was the Fortnite World Cup. It was set to be one of the biggest eSports events of 2020, with a prize pool of $3 million. Thankfully, the Fortnite World Cup takes place annually and it will be better than ever in 2021. The qualifying rounds will feature a pool of talent including over 350 million players across the planet, which is fantastic and excitement is building.

For those who are interested in having a wager on eSports, Counter-Strike Global Offensive is a great game to follow. The CS:GO World Championship is due to take place in 2021 and 24 teams from across the world will compete over several different games in the space of two weeks to crown the champion.

The Electronic Sports League is a huge eSports organizer and production company and they have been busy setting out their schedule for 2021, with Counter-Strike Global Offensive being one of the major components. They have already created their calendar for upcoming events in 2021 with the aim of bringing some much-needed stability back for the players and fans. The calendar of CS:GO tournaments in 2021 include online events such as IEM Katowice but plenty of studio events, including DreamHack Masters Spring and IEM Summer.

Perhaps the one event everyone is looking forward to is the ESL One Cologne, which is due to take place as a live event at the Lanxess Arena, Cologne, Germany. It would be thrilling if fans can attend this event, making it one of the big eSports events to get excited about in 2021. There is even a brand new ESL Pro Tour Studio for 2021 and there is much to be excited about as we enter a huge year of eSports action.
