Epic Games Allegedly Hacked by Ransomware Group Threatening Sale of 189 GB of Stolen Data

A group of hackers called Mogilevich are claiming to have stolen 189 GB worth of data from Epic Games in a recent cyberattack.

According to a report from Cyber Daily, Mogilevich claimed its darknet leak site on the night of February 27th, stating that it had successfully executed an attack on the servers of Epic Games.

As per the claims, approximately 189 GB of confidential data was stolen from Epic Games, comprising “email, passwords, full name, payment information, source code, and many other data.”

The ransomware group is offering to sell the stolen data with a deadline set for Monday, March 4th. However, they have not specified a ransom amount, leaving the extent of their demands unclear.

The information is advertised for sale, as indicated by the message on the site. Additionally, there is a hyperlink stating, “If you are an employee of the company or someone who would like to buy the data, click on me.”

Surprisingly, the ransomware group has not provided any evidence to substantiate their claim of possessing the stolen data.

While this claim may be simply a bluff, recent events suggest otherwise. Mogilevich has been pretty active in carrying out cyberattacks over the past few days, making Epic Games its fourth victim. The group’s first known target was Nissan subsidiary Infiniti USA, which fell victim to a Mogilevich hack on February 20th.

According to a report by TheGamer, Epic Games stated, “We are investigating, but there is currently zero evidence that these claims are legitimate. Mogilievich has not contacted Epic or provided any proof of the veracity of these allegations.”
