Dota 2: 40,000 accounts banned for abusing matchmaking

Dota 2 ban wave hits 40,000 accounts for abusing the matchmaking system.

Dota 2 has been dealing with matchmaking issues for a while now, Valve started acting upon it last year in order to make sure the players are playing the game right way and not abusing the system.

Recalling the beginning of 2019, we started to see many more ’smurfs’, people who create new accounts to win and climb the ladder the easier way. 17,000 accounts were banned in the name of ’smurfing’.

Forwarding to 2020, Valve is still focused and the official Twitter account of DOTA 2 announced today more than 40,000 accounts are banned for abusing matchmaking system of the game.

Things aren’t taken easily this time, these bans act as a game ban, not just a ranked matchmaking ban.

This update comes along with the Dota 2 client update, and hopefully, it is surely going to help fight back against boosting and smurf accounts.

Looks like the developers behind the scenes have finally been able to put up a solid system for the game to be played by the rules. Valve further added “We are making our smurf detection system more sensitive in this update. This change will much more proactively target potential smurf accounts, but may on rare occasion give a normal player extra MMR.”

Boosting and smurfing are both issues in the community and Valve taking such a severe action will brush up the quality of ranked matchmaking games played and improve the game we love.
