Valve Makes Changes to CS2 Major Rules

Valve has officially updated the seeding process for CSGO Majors. The new system prioritizes Valve’s Regional Standings over the Regional Major Rankings (RMR), a move that promises to balance the scales of competition more fairly. Introduced in December 2022, the Regional Standings now play a pivotal role in determining which teams advance directly to the later stages of the Majors, bypassing the initial rounds.

Valve’s update introduces a novel pairing system for the group stages, designed to optimize the flow of the tournament and enhance the viewing experience. This system will see a new order of matchups, where teams are paired in a way that avoids early rematches and keeps the excitement high from the very first round. The aim is to maintain a competitive edge while ensuring a fresh and unpredictable tournament progression.

The stages of CSGO Major tournaments have undergone a rebranding, shedding the old ‘Challengers’, ‘Legends’, and ‘Champions’ titles for the more intuitive ‘Opening’, ‘Elimination’, and ‘Playoffs’ stages. This change, the first since the ELEAGUE Major Boston in 2018, reflects the evolving nature of the tournament and its expanding roster of teams.

Here is a list of the CS2 Major Swiss Round matchups:

  • 1 vs 9
  • 2 vs 10
  • 3 vs 11
  • 4 vs 12
  • 5 vs 13
  • 6 vs 14
  • 7 vs 15
  • 8 vs 16

The journey to the CSGO Major crown begins with a rigorous qualification process, leading up to the much-anticipated event in Copenhagen. With the RMRs slated to play a significant role in shaping the competitive landscape, teams are gearing up for a tournament that promises to be as thrilling as it is transformative.

Valve’s latest rulebook update for CSGO Majors is a testament to their commitment to evolving the esports scene. By refining the seeding process and redefining tournament stages, Valve ensures that each Major is not just a competition but a showcase of the highest level of strategic play in esports.
