G2 Esports is in the semi-finals of the BLAST Open London, beating FaZe Clan 2-0 with a convincing performance. Both teams, coming into the event with a poor start to the season, faced off, but it was G2 under the leadership of huNter who managed to outlast a highly experienced karrigan in a battle of wits in overtime.

Map 1: Inferno; Pick: G2; Winner: G2
FaZe converted the first gun round of the map, having lost the first 3 rounds to begin with. Despite getting close on multiple occasions, FaZe could not stop G2 from posting a dominant half on the T side. Winning the final two rounds of the first half, FaZe switched sides with a heavily one-sided scoreline of 8-4. G2 winning the pistol round sealed the deal for them as FaZe could barely put up any fight on their offense, leading to G2 effortlessly closing the half with a dominant 13-5 scoreline.
Map 2: Dust2; Pick: FaZe; Winner: G2
G2 continued the momentum from the first map, but FaZe managed to stop them before the snowball started rolling. FaZe put together a streak of a few rounds to salvage the half with a leveled scoreline. FaZe took an early lead to start the second, but G2 leveled it to push the game to overtime. The first map was a total blowout; the second map made it tough to separate the two teams in the neck-and-neck battle. It wasn’t until the 3rd overtime that G2 managed to clean sweep FaZe to close the series and make it to the next round with a 19-15 scoreline.
FaZe have looked better as a team, and the massive structural overhaul they underwent after EliGE left the roster would take time. Broky’s coming back into form, and all the players are finding their mojo; this FaZe team would be one to watch out for in the coming events.
