Map 1: Mirage; Pick: MongolZ; Winner: FURIA

Being their comfort pick, MongolZ started strong on their offense, going 3-0 up before FURIA hit the board. Having hit the scoreboard, the Brazilians were anything but consistent, leading to MongolZ running away with the first half with a 4-8 scoreline. FURIA turned a few heads and replicated the scoreline to pull off a stunning comeback. With the regulation failing to separate the two teams, FURIA in overtime did not let more than a single round slip and closed the map with a 16-13 scoreline. Molodoy continued his dominance across the map with 28 kills to give his team an early lead.

Map 2: Inferno; Pick: FURIA; Winner: MongolZ

Dropping the ball after the first round, MongolZ let FURIA take control of the map on their offense. The MongolZ defense failed miserably, leading the Brazilians to run all over them. Having somehow managed to win 4 rounds in the first half, MongolZ laid the foundation for a comeback in the second. The scoreline would suggest an easy win for FURIA, but MongolZ kept pulling in round after round, with FURIA’s defense being rendered helpless. FURIA were on the verge of winning as the final round of the map saw MongolZ close the game in regulation. 1.78 IR from the Senzu level series for MongolZ, and ensured that FURIA doesn’t have an easy time.

Map 3: Nuke; Pick: MongolZ; Winner: FURIA

6-0 to start the game, FURIA put MongolZ on another comeback route right from the start of Nuke. Largely dominant for the better part of the half, they made the Asian team work for the measly 3 rounds that they managed to get. FURIA continued with their streak from the first half to hit map point, and that’s all they managed in the first half. Jaw-dropping fumble from the Brazilians not only let MongolZ get back in the game, but they even managed to level the scoreline and push to overtime. FURIA got a hold of the game in overtime, where they remained flawless and prevented a disastrous throw to regain their lead in the series. With 25 kills and 1.78 IR, YEKINDAR dropped a masterclass for FURIA to give his team the lead back in the series.

Map 4: Overpass; Pick: FURIA; Winner: MongolZ;

Going down in the series after the loss in Nuke, MongolZ started well on their defense, pulling in a considerable lead without letting FURIA have much hold over the game. Closing the half with an 8-4 scoreline, MongolZ asserted their dominance early on without having to make a comeback. The second half produced a more interesting affair with both teams trading rounds until MongolZ closed the half with a 3-round streak. Winning the match 13-9, MongolZ ensured a 5th map as the decider for the title. Techno4k with 21 kills dopped the impact after a quiet start to the map, which ensured a 5th map as the title decider.

Map 5: Dust2; Pick: Decider; Winner:FURIA;

Starting the map with a 2-0 deficit, FURIA quickly got on the board and managed to end the first half with a narrow lead despite starting poorly. Swapping sides with a 7-5 scoreline, FURIA completely dominated for the rest of the game to the point they went flawless in the final half of the series to win Dust2 over MongolZ and bring home their first trophy in many moons. 19 kills from YEKINDAR once again proved vital and turned out to be the reason why FUIRA stood a fighting chance against the Asian powerhouse.

FURIA has taken down the biggest names in Falcons, G2, and now MongolZ in getting to where they are, and by no means are they to be taken lightly moving forward. This win marks the arrival of a new favourite in the competitive scene.
