New CS2 Update Improves HE Grenades, Chicken Explosions, & Boosts Security for Workshop Maps

Valve has shipped out a new update to Counter-Strike 2 on January 30, and while it isn’t nearly as big as the major Season 4 patch we saw last week, it does introduce some notable changes to the competitive shooter.

The highlights of the latest CS2 update include improvements to HE grenades, performance optimizations upon blowing up chickens, additional security when joining workshop maps, and a series of changes to the newly added community maps.

Without further ado, let’s check out everything you need to know about the new CS2 patch.

CS2 January 30 Patch: What You Need to Know

Prior to this patch, HE grenades would sometimes cause less damage to players when exploding in proximity behind a small ledge. Moving forward, the damage numbers should be much more consistent.

The knife sound changes that were introduced to CS2 with the last patch have also received further adjustments. However, this time, the sound changes for the knives aren’t as drastic and are mostly limited to volume alterations for certain variants.

The patch also includes a minor performance improvement related to chicken kills, with exploding chickens now having a reduced impact on FPS.

Another crucial change is the change of the method for community maps to save modified user settings. Community maps can no longer use ‘host_writeconfig’ for users to automatically override their config, and have to run ‘host_writeconfig_with_prompt’ instead, which will prompt the user for permission to save any changes. This gives players an additional layer of control over when and how their settings are modified on specific maps.

Additionally, community maps are now restricted to a smaller list of allowed console commands, further improving players’ security.
