The BGMI 4.2 update is set to be released in January 2026, and the leaks have already started circulating on the internet. The highly anticipated BGMI next update will introduce the Prime Wood Genesis theme mode based on nature and greenery. Gamers can also look forward to many exciting new gameplay features like Scorpion and Deer vehicles, new map changes, a tree-like AI companion, and even new weapons to use in battles. BGMI Next Update: Prime Wood Genesis Mode and Mirror Island
The biggest highlight of the BGMI 4.2 update is the new Prime Wood Genesis Mode, which fully changes the look and gameplay of Erangel.
A huge tree-like structure appears on the map, almost like the old Mirror Island but much larger. Players can climb this area and fight or loot on top of it. The ground around this tree becomes a Radioactive Zone, so players must stay safe while moving through it.
To reach the giant tree, players need to use blue portal circles placed at different spots on the map. These portals take you to the upper fighting zone.
Map Changes and New Hot Drops
This update also changes some popular Erangel locations.
Fixed Hot Drops: Pochinki and Yasnaya Polyana are confirmed as permanent hot drop areas in this mode.
New Designs: Both locations get new buildings, palaces, courtyards, and bridge-like pathways that look like giant tree roots. These paths connect different parts of the area, letting players move quickly above the original map.
New Summonable Vehicle: The Scorpion
One of the most exciting additions is a special personal vehicle called the Scorpion. Players can find an item called the Scorpion Horn. When used, it adds a new button on the screen that lets you summon the Scorpion anywhere in an open area.
The best part is that this vehicle is portable. When you get off, it automatically goes back into your backpack, so it becomes your personal companion. The Scorpion has special moves like a jump/stomp attack and Launch Spikes, a long-range ability that can even defeat the new boss in this mode.

New Enemies and Weapons
The mode brings dangerous new enemies.
Guardian Boss: A tree-like boss called the Guardian appears mainly in Yasnaya Polyana. It can throw poisonous liquid and summon smaller tree creatures to attack players.
New Special Weapon: Leaks also show a new green-themed weapon with wave-like effects. Early reports say it might work like the Snow M24 by trapping enemies with tree-root effects when fired.
BGMI 4.2 Update Release Date and Time
Krafton India has not officially confirmed the exact BGMI 4.2 update date, but we can estimate it using the previous update schedule. Krafton usually pushes a major update every two months. For example, BGMI 3.8 came in May 2025, 3.9 in July 2025, 4.0 in September 2025, and BGMI 4.1 update arrived in November 2025.
Following this pattern, the BGMI 4.2 update is expected to be released in January 2026, most likely between 9 to 16 January, which is the usual time window Krafton follows for big updates.
If the rollout follows the regular timing, players can expect the update to start rolling out from 6:30 AM IST onwards on the release day. Before the update becomes available, BGMI creators will also release a new update podcast where they will reveal all the new features coming in version 4.2.
