Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) offers eight distinct battle royale maps, each with unique terrain, loot density, and gameplay dynamics. Understanding map characteristics helps players choose optimal landing zones, vehicles, and combat strategies for ranking up efficiently.
Large Maps in BGMI (8×8 km)
Erangel
Erangel remains the most popular map for competitive play and ranking. This 8×8 km map features a balanced mix of urban areas, open fields, and water bodies covering 48% of the total area. The map supports 100 players per match and offers strategic advantages for both aggressive and survival-focused playstyles.

Key locations include Pochinki, School, Georgopol, Sosnovka Military Base, and Mylta Power. The diverse terrain provides ample hiding spots, making it ideal for players prioritizing survival over kills.
Miramar
Miramar spans 8×8 km with desert terrain and the highest land coverage at 80%. This map features large urban centers like Pecado, Los Leones, and San Martin surrounded by rocky mountains. The western and northern boundaries are blocked by mountains and metal walls.

Roads are less vehicle-friendly compared to Erangel, forcing players to rely more on buildings for cover. Long-range weapons perform exceptionally well due to open sightlines across the desert landscape.
Rondo
Rondo is the newest 8×8 km addition featuring hybrid urban-nature terrain. This map combines modern cityscapes with natural elements, offering both close-quarters combat zones and long-range sniper positions. However, Rondo is not permitted in BGIS 2026 competitive matches, where only Erangel and Miramar are used.

Medium Maps in BGMI (4x-6x km)
Sanhok
This 4×4 km tropical island map delivers fast-paced gameplay with high loot density. The map comprises three islands separated by rivers, with numerous small and medium-sized towns positioned close together. Water covers approximately 50% of the total area.

Popular drop locations include Bootcamp, Paradise Resort, Camp Alpha, and Ruins. Dense foliage at 43% coverage enables effective stealth tactics and ambush strategies.
Vikendi
Vikendi measures 6×6 km with snow-covered terrain and distinctive landmarks. Water bodies comprise nearly 60% of the map area, creating multiple islands connected by bridges. Top loot spots include Cosmodrome, Castle, Villa, Dobro Mesto, and Cement Factory.

The snowy environment affects visibility and vehicle handling, requiring adapted gameplay strategies. Supply Shops were added to Vikendi in recent updates for mid-match equipment purchases.
Small Maps in BGMI (2×2 km)
Livik
Livik offers exceptionally fast matches on its 2×2 km Nordic terrain. Despite the compact size, the map features diverse environments including urban areas, snowy mountains, and a volcano. Exclusive items include Monster Trucks, P90 submachine guns, and MK12 assault rifles.

Prime locations are Shipyard, East Port, Blomster, Power Plant, and Midstein. The blue zone moves rapidly, typically ending matches within 15 minutes.
Karakin
Karakin presents 2×2 km of desert terrain without large mountains, featuring rocky hills and extensive underground tunnel systems. Key drop zones include Al Hayik, Bahr Sahir, Bashara, Al Habar, and Hadiqa Nemo.

Unique mechanics include the Demolition Zone (replacing the Red Zone), Sticky Bombs that destroy specific walls, and the Panzerfaust rocket launcher with a 6-meter blast radius. These features enable building destruction and creative tactical approaches.
Smallest Map in BGMI (1×1 km)
Nusa
Nusa is the smallest playable map at 1×1 km, featuring a tropical resort island. Matches last only eight minutes, delivering intense action from start to finish.

Distinctive features include Ziplines for rapid traversal, Elevators in hotel buildings, zorb balls, swimming pools, combustible structures, and destructible jars. The Tactical Crossbow allows players to ignite buildings and repair ziplines. This map suits players seeking quick, action-packed sessions.
Map Selection Strategy
For ranking up, Erangel remains the optimal choice due to its size advantage and survival opportunities. Smaller maps like Livik, Karakin, and Nusa suit players preferring aggressive gameplay with frequent combat encounters. Medium maps provide balanced experiences between survival duration and action intensity.
All maps except Erangel require separate downloads to manage storage space. Players can download maps through the matchmaking menu by clicking the download icon next to each map name.
