Cross-play gaming has become an essential aspect of contemporary multiplayer games. This feature becomes more useful when it comes to co-op games like Payday 2. However, does the game support cross-platform play? In this article, we will find out. Keep reading till the end!
Is Payday 2 Cross-Platform?
Payday 2 has no cross-platform play. Therefore, players on various gaming platforms cannot join together for heists. If you’re playing on Xbox, you can’t join up with friends on PlayStation or PC, and they can’t join up with you. This has been the case since the release of the game in 2013 and still holds as of 2025.

Payday 2 can be played on a wide variety of platforms, such as PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Linux. Yet, the multiplayer mode of the game is limited to players who belong to the same platform environment.
The game does have cross-generation play within the same family of consoles. PlayStation 4 players can be paired up with PlayStation 5 players, and Xbox One players can be paired up with Xbox Series X|S players. PC players can also be paired together, no matter if they’re playing on Steam or the Epic Games Store.
Cross-platform constraint becomes more relevant when considering the vast discrepancies between console and PC versions. The PC version has received more than 240 significant content updates, whereas PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions haven’t been updated since 2018.
