The League of Legends Worlds 2019 came to an end yesterday in Paris, with the finale game between China’s top seed FunPlus Phoenix and Europe’s top seed G2 Esports. The final was memorable for the viewers as the underdogs, FPX easily trampled the European favourites G2 with a quick 3-0 victory.

But that’s not all, the highly anticipated matchup was able to pull 3.7 million unique viewers at its highest, with the whole series sitting at a comfortable 2.9 million concurrent viewers count. This year, the concurrent viewership almost doubled over the last year’s World Championship, which had a peak viewership of only 1.6 million.

This viewership largely comprised of Western viewers, who were hoping to seethe European team, G2 Esports, winning and taking home the Worlds title for the first time since 2011.

G2 were touted as best of the European scene and their journey to the finals also proved that, with them dominating almost every event they attended and were poised to complete the first everGrand Slam of League. Prior to the Worlds, G2 had won the Spring Splits, Summer Splits and MSI in the same year i.e. 2019. They only needed Worlds 2019 victory to become the first team to ever attain The Grand Slam Title in League of Legends.

But FPX proved too strong of a roadblock in their houseful victory run. With the help from the budding star Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang, who was the MVP of the game, FPX controlled the whole game from the start and didn’t give G2 anychance to overpower them. The game went smoothly for FPX and they secured the trophy in a 3-0 victory, second time in a row for the Chinese region.
