CS2 Ratings & Ranking System Explained

Understanding the New CS2 Ranking System and How to Climb the Competitive Ladder

With the launch of Counter-Strike 2 in September 2024, CSGO players were greeted with an entirely new rating system associated with the Premier game mode of the title. The new ranking system represented players’ ranks via numerical values, which was a significant change from the CSGO ranking system that spanned from Silver 1 to Global Elite.

The Premier mode is the primary form of competitive game mode in CS2. While players are allowed to queue for separate maps and have map-specific rankings, both the regional and global leaderboards are exclusively based on the Premier ranks, also known as the ‘CS Rating’.

CS2 Ranking System: CS Rating Explained

CS2 Ranking System

After a player wins 10 games in Premier mode, they are automatically given a CS rating, which is based on their in-game performances. The CS rating starts at 1,000 and can even exceed 40,000. Every 5,000-point increment in the competitive leaderboards of CS2 is represented by a distinct color.

CS rating can be earned by winning games in the Premier matchmaking and is lost upon losing games. The amount of CS rating gained or lost in a game is based on a number of different factors including the match result, your personal performance, and more.
