ESL partners with McDonald’s in Germany for Meisterschaft 2018

Germany’s biggest championship Meisterschaft by ESL will have a F&B partner, McDonald’s, the company announced a couple of hours ago. The food chain giant officially announced the plan of their sponsorship of 2018 in relation with ESL in Germany.

The McDonald’s logo will feature in all ESL Meisterschaft tournaments this year and the company promises special activations in Gamescom Cologne, such as competitions for fans to win “Gold Cards” for free meals at the fast-food chain’s restaurants.

“More and more non-endemic brands are increasingly discovering the potential of esports and we are proud to have such an excellent partner as McDonald’s Germany. It’s the perfect partner to further establish esports in Germany and foster the community’s growth around ESL Meisterschaft and beyond,” said Bernhard Mogk, ESL’s global sales and business development SVP.

The deal will supposedly include McDonald’s deliveries to visitors of ESL Meisterschaft events in Germany, and at “other major events” in the area likes Gamescom in Cologne.

Philipp Wachholz, Director of Corporate Affairs, McDonald’s Germany, commented on the news. The translated quote is as follows:

“This offers us completely new opportunities to get in touch with a relevant target group and we are looking forward to working together and to taking the next steps with a professional partner like the ESL, which is a meaningful and, above all, contemporary addition to our traditional sports commitment so far.”

ESL Meisterschaft worked with multiple non-endemic partners over the last years. Its main sponsor since 2016 is home loan bank Wüstenrot, Pringles also features in the portfolio, while paysafecard was just announced as ESL’s global partner, including the German national championships. ESL Meisterschaft endemic partners are Intel, One.de, ZOWIE, Need for Seat, and Red Bull.
